About Dr. Maria Leon
Dr. Maria Leon’s mission has been to give back to her community by providing quality care and advocating for women’s health. Living and training in the Brooklyn/Queens area has given Dr. Leon an extra sense of purpose. Not only has she had the opportunity to care for this population, but she also had the unique experience of being a patient here herself during her pregnancy and delivery of her beautiful baby boy. Because of this, she is able to connect with her patients on a deeper level.
As a graduate from NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Leon was trained with an additional set of skills. Aside from a foundation in anatomy and physiology, Dr. Leon learned to listen to her patient’s bodies and that not all ailments require medicinal management. Dr. Leon is trained and proficient in osteopathic techniques for treating common complaints such as lower back pain and carpel tunnel syndrome, giving her additional tools to help her patients.
Dr. Leon completed her residency training at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. During this time she assisted in and performed various obstetric and gynecologic procedures. She participated in research opportunities focusing on sonographic findings and their predictability of early pregnancy success or failure. Her time in residency helped her to develop her clinical acumen and her sense of purpose to the people of this community.
Dr. Leon was born and raised in Ecuador before coming to New York. Aside from being fluent in Spanish, she is able to make her patients feel comfortable through her belief in collaborative care. She encourages open communication and makes sure to include her patients in decisions about their healthcare.
Dr. Leon is excited to begin this next phase in her career. She plans to bring together the lessons she learned in medical school, the skills she acquired in residency, and her sense of compassion and collaboration to be a champion for her patients.

The doctor was over 30 minutes late to work with multiple patients waiting at 10am, causing me to have to wait an hour to be seen. The office has an extremely overpowering air freshener smell that is nauseating. My original visit I did have a slightly better experience but moving forward I might have to explore other options because my time is valuable and it deserves to be respected.

Front desk and nurse were angels! I went in for my first ever pap smear and felt a little nervous. I picked Dr. Leon because she looked friendly in her photo and was young so I thought maybe she’d be more reassuring. However, I overheard a few of her conversations with the receptionist and they came off a bit weird. During my appointment, she was stand offish. Did not smile once at me, had no expression on her face and kind of just seemed like she wanted to get it over with. More so checking off a list rather than having a conversation (or being open to one) which made me reluctant to communicate any questions or concerns. It seems like she might be overworked from what I overheard but still bedside manners are very important when it comes to healthcare. I really liked my experience otherwise but might just come back to another doctor in the future.

The office is nice and clean! Dr. Leon's bedside manner is poor compared to expectation. Questions about my health history weren't thorough - I wasn't asked about previous pregnancies/children and when it came time for my appointment and I was asked if I am on birth control, I stated I wasn't on traditional birth control pills. The doctor responded with "So, you want to get pregnant?" This may seem like a common question but it was asked in a way that made me feel guilty. If I was asked thorough questions about my previous experience with birth control, maybe she would have been a bit more sensitive and not assuming. Overall, I liked the office atmosphere and the professionalism of the nurse. I likely will not be returning for ad hoc care but because of the close proximity to my house, may do a yearly physical for convenience of not traveling. There aren't many GYN's in this area!

Absolutely atrocious. I booked an appointment and was turned away because I had my psychiatric Service Dog with me. I literally have PTSD and agoraphobia and finally getting help from years of DV and have lost so much weight. I need to see a doctor and get checked- but this office refused to see me despite federal law. The receptionist was a complete nasty person.

I arrived a bit earlier than expected but was attended to right away. Everyone from the staff, nurse, to the doctor were really friendly. They explained to me what was going on and were really good at listening. I felt very comfortable and would recommend this place to anyone looking for an obgyn.

Dr. Leon was wonderful. She answered my many questions thoroughly and I felt listened to. I hope in the future they can train all desk staff to retrieve patient info from Zocdoc. I completed all paperwork available in Zocdoc online, but was told to complete much of the same information when I arrived.
