About Dr. Marilyn Ng
What is your favorite part of your job?
Seeing patients, especially kids put on their first pair of glasses and being amazed they can see so clearly. Hearing "I can see the leaves on the trees!" never gets old. I love seeing that wide grin while patients look around the room with their new glasses.
Tell me more about yourself.
Native San Franciscan here! I grew up in the Sunset District and yes, I did go to Lowell High School. I completed my undergraduate studies at UC Davis and earned my Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley. I went from watching games at the cold and windy Candlestick to cold and windy PacBell Park (now Oracle Park), but at least I get garlic fries now. Go Giants! Foggy weather is my friend—I will freeze if it's below 60 degrees and melt above 70. I belong to the California Optometry Association and am part of the San Francisco Optometric Society.
What are your outside interests and hobbies?
I love traveling and trying new foods—hence all those food pics on Facebook. Yes, I am one of those people who post pictures of food all the time. I also love to curl up with a good book, especially with the foggy San Francisco weather. During this stay-at-home period, I have been experimenting with baking and cooking. Sometimes it turns out awesome. Sometimes it doesn’t look great but tastes delicious. And sometimes it doesn’t look or taste good at all.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
Traveling back to Asia is always fun except for the long plane ride. My favorite spot is Singapore, where I wish I was part of the Crazy Rich Asians—but I’m just crazy and Asian.
If you could have one food or drink every day, what would it be?
Boba tea. I can have one every day and anytime. So delicious, but it makes my wallet thinner and my waistline bigger.

I had a very negative experience here. First I booked a 20 min appt online and was asked to fill out forms. I filled them out but it kept saying I was missing fields but wouldn’t tell me which ones so I couldn’t submit. Ok, fine. Then I get to the location and they say that in order to use my insurance, I need to have my Employee ID from my company. No one said this ahead of time so I had to frantically call all my workers during their work hours to pull it from the main system for me because I didn’t have that handy on my phone. Then they said it was going to be 45-60 mins long even though the slot I booked on Zocdoc said it was only going to be 20 mins. I said they should change that because now I didn’t have enough time roped off to do the exam and they said they had no control over there. Just a bad admin experience all the way around. I didn’t even end up seeing the provider because of all the ridiculous loop holes and disorganization. 1 star
