About Dr. Matthew Borns
Dr. Matthew A. Borns is originally from Dayton, Ohio and began practice in Charlotte, NC in 2015. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Kentucky, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He has always been passionate about science and problem solving and was introduced to the profession of podiatry when suffering an ingrown toenail. He went on to receive his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Kent State University followed by completing a three year Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency at the Southern Arizona Veterans Hospital in Tucson, Arizona.
Dr. Borns’ professional interests include biomechanics and orthotics, ingrown toenail removal, sports medicine, diabetic limb preservation, and pediatrics.
Dr. Borns is on staff at the Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center and Charlotte Surgery Center. He is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, American College of Foot and Ankle Pediatrics, and North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society.
His personal interests are outdoors including golf, hiking, grilling/barbecuing, and spending quality time with family

I never went to the appointment. There receptionist contacted me 2 hours before my appointment and told me that I needed a written referral from my Medical Doctor. My annual home care doctor was with me when I took the call. The receptionist said that it was something new that started in 2026. I was never advised of that until the phone call. Meanwhile I was angry, disappointed and in serious foot pain. Had to go to South Charlotte emergency room. Who treated me like a human. It was very unprofessional to contact me with that late notification, expecting me to jump through hoops to get a referral, just before my appointment. Will never use Carmel Foot Specialist ever again.
