Matt Esperon, O.D. graduated from the University of California San Diego in 1999 with a degree in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience and then from the State University of New York College of Optometry in 2003 through a US Navy scholarship.
He then served his obligation as a Lieutenant and optometrist in the Navy in San Diego. He worked with Marine recruits at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, co-managed laser surgery patients at the Refractive Surgery Center, and worked with Navy pilots at the Naval Air Station on Coronado Island and aboard the USS Nimitz Aircraft Carrier.
He participated in research at the Naval Refractive Surgery Center for the use of new laser surgery techniques and technology, and for the use of laser surgery in Navy pilots.
He is experienced in vision therapy, ocular surface disease, and retinal disease through externships at the SUNY University Optometric Center Vision Therapy and Ocular Disease Centers, and through the St. Alban’s VA Hospital.

Always so pleased with my visits to Dr. Esperon! The staff is particularly friendly and patient with questions, and they always go above and beyond to be sure that all the details with my insurance company are covered. I've been going to Focus Eye for years and I barely ever wait more than 10 minutes to be seen. Wonderful practice!

Dr. Esperon, is a kind and compassionate doctor and young man. He is professional and very thorough. He cares about his patients, he also took care of my parents Mom and Dad. Both elderly patients. This is a family friendly office, Dr. Esperon takes his time explains everything so you can understand what is going on. And he cares about his patients. I feel very well cared for and in the best of his hands with my vision is concerned!

Excellent doctor, very nice office, friendly staff. I was seen late due to a delay. Dr. Esperon immediately apologized as he walked in and continued on with the appointment. I never felt rushed, he took extra care to answer any questions I had. It is very clear Dr. Esperon takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows in how he treats his patients. I would HIGHLY recommend him, definitely the best optometrist I have ever been to.

It was ok. I really like the doctor but the wait time was way too long. My appointment was at 11:20 and I was right on time but didn't get to see the doctor until 12:40. May be they should space out the appointment time a little more.

Dr. Esperon is exceptionally professional, attentive, and accommodating. He gives you his full attention, listens to problems without rushing and makes thoughtful suggestions. He is by far one of the best doctors I've ever had and I would recommend him to anyone. The only downside to visiting Dr. Esperon is that his office is quite busy and so there is usually a wait of 10 or 15 minutes. Despite this, the office staff do a very good job of keeping things moving and the waiting area has lots of items to pass the time, including magazines, a TV, and free coffee. In my opinion Dr. Esperon is worth a slight wait.

Great Optometrist. Was right to the point, I was able to quickly come in and do what i had to do in a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend him as he knows what he is doing. Also booking and filling out forms through zocdoc before hand is another plus of this place. They make it really convenient for customers.

Dr. Esperon was very clear about issues related to my eyes and patiently answered my very high number of questions for him. The office hours are also very convenience; I had an 8:15am appointment and was attended to as soon as I finished filling out my paperwork.
