Getting to know Dr. Matthew Milstein

Matthew Milstein is a California/Florida licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families across a wide array of areas including: achieving flow states, repairing relationships, building self-worth, communication patterns, attachment issues, sleep issues, boundary issues, and mental health struggles (e.g., PTSD, depression, chronic anxiety, OCD).

What should a new client know about working with you?

We start out getting to know each other, I use the Person-centered approach to build rapport, support you, and get clarity on what you would like to accomplish. I'll use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, and inner child work to promote healthy functional thoughts and behaviors, symptom reduction/management, and increased self-worth and self-love practices. For medication management - please contact your local medical physician.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When you book an appointment, I'll reach out either the same day or next, to schedule a quick phone chat for us to discuss scheduling, completing forms, and to answer any questions you may have. Sessions generally run between 53-55 minutes. Our first session is a clinical intake which covers your background and clarifies treatment goals. In continuing sessions we engage in talk therapy, with time split between checking in, focusing on treatment goals, and planning future sessions. I do like to give homework for you to work on in-between sessions - but don't fear, there are no grades, these are usually suggestions!
