Getting to know Dr. Matthew Rosen

I am a New York State licensed psychologist with a PhD in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University, who has provided psychotherapy and psychological testing services to children, adolescents, and adults for over 35 years. During that time, I have developed a particular interest and expertise in working with hypersensitive children with anxiety and mood disorders and in the differential diagnosis of ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. As a child psychologist who has treated over 2,000 children and adolescents during my career, I have had many patients come to me with a diagnosis of ADHD. More often than not, a thorough psychological evaluation, which typically involves an in-depth interview and psychological testing, reveals an underlying anxiety or mood disorder rather than ADHD. Because there are many overlapping symptoms in ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder, misdiagnosis can occur quite frequently. In working with children and adolescents, I have found that establishing a strong therapeutic connection and making an accurate diagnosis are the keys to providing effective treatment. A strong therapeutic connection can only be built in an atmosphere of mutual trust, understanding, and respect, where children feel important and are taken seriously. With such a connection, people can be inspired to think differently, which can lead to longer-lasting behavioral changes. This process of connection also fosters greater depth of understanding, accuracy of perception, and clarity of vision, leading to an enhanced sense of control, more effective problem solving, and an overall sense of well-being. Note: I do not perform bariatric pre-surgical psychological assessments.

I would highly recommend him. He’s great at what he does and I’m not one to leave a review, but I felt I had to.

He was a great listener but I did not have access to his profile showing his background was predominantly with children until I was about to press the link!

Not sure how I feel about virtual appointments and I probably wouldn’t do one again. Dr. Rosen was straight to the point with his testing though and I appreciated that. Still not sure about my diagnosis and would probably need to be seen in person instead.

My experience since seeing Dr. Rosen has been nothing but amazing. I started seeing Dr. Rosen due to my intense anxiety and he has given me the tools to cope with it. Not only has my anxiety gotten better but my relationships all around have improved tremendously because of my sessions. Dr. Rosen isn't the typical therapist who just asks "ok and how does that make you feel?" He is very interactive and isn't afraid to tell you when you've done or said something that maybe you shouldn't have. Thank you Dr. Rosen for helping me see the beauty of living life in the moment.

I just had my first appt with the Doctor. I haven't had a great deal of positive experiences in the past. I can say I have a lot of hope this will be different. He is professional and actually made me feel validated. I spoke a lot as he took notes, being it was first session. Still, in the moments that counted I could see he was present. I didn't feel judged, which is sadly novel. Usually, I feel worse leaving an appt than I arrived. I'm actually looking forward to our next appt.

This is my 1st time speaking to a psychologist and it was a great experience. Dr Rosen is super friendly and really listens to you. He was great at breaking things I said down and helped me see things from a different perspective. Will continue to see him.
Dr. Rosen is a wonderful therapist who builds connections with his patients to help guide them. I have gone to Dr. Rosen for over three years and can tell you that he is different from other therapists. As someone who has had some difficult times, Dr. Rosen was the only one who was able to help. His depth of understanding and accuracy of perception help to give his patients clarity and contentment. He is always on time and is there for his patients when they need urgent help. Couldn't recommend him more!
He is very nice and understanding, the best therapist I’ve ever had. He is compassionate and really cares about the connection. He doesn’t diagnose too soon but not too long either, and he is pretty cheap too, not too expensive.
We went through a lot with my stepson before meeting with Dr. Rosen. We went through a lot of misdiagnoses with him and we knew it. Dr. Rosen took the time to fully diagnose him and set us up on immediate next steps so we could begin a difference. A year later, between him being on correct medications from the psychiatrist Dr. Rosen had us partner with and weekly sessions with Dr. Rosen himself, there has been huge progress. We went from having mostly bad times and issues the majority of the time to mostly good times. Even now, our “issues” are much more easily resolved. Dr. Rosen doesn’t always tell you what you want to hear but he does always tell you what you need to hear. It’s given everyone a better understanding of my stepson and how best to parent him. The thing about therapy is you need to give it time. You cannot expect results over night although with Dr. Rosen we noticed drastic changes within the first month. And now my stepson has formed an incredible bond that lets him open up more with Dr. Rosen and values him and meeting with him. He’s fully aware that he makes a positive impact in his life and we are grateful for it all.
I have been seeing Dr. Rosen for a couple of years now, and I cannot stress enough how much he’s helped me. I am so much healthier and living such a better life because of his expertise, patience, and care. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Rosen to anyone looking for a psychologist/psychotherapist and wants the best possible help.
Dr. Rosen is truly a wonderful professional. He is someone that you can easily build trust with and open up to without feeling any judgment.
I am one of Dr Matthew Rosen’s patients and I have been seeing him for almost a year now. In that year he has helped me so much with my mental health so much, when I first went to see him I never could of imagined how much better I’d feel in just a few months. When I first met him it was like he already knew how he could help me, he was able to put together how I felt just by talking with me for an hour and from then on he helped me where I needed it. If your a younger person needing help, I’d highly suggest Dr. Rosen
Dr. Rosen has been seeing my grandson for almost 4 years. Having many problems at the outset, Dr. Rosen patiently and systematically has dealt with each and every one in the most professional manner. His effectiveness is simply attributed to his understanding approach thereby building a sense of trust. I cannot thank Dr. Rosen enough for what he has done for my grandson!!
Dr. Rosen saw both of my boys for a period of two years. In that time, he has done what no other psychologist has been able to. He turned my kids around 180*. He has a skill set that I have never seen before, is extremely astute, has a great sense of humor and a very warm way about him that opened my kids up and ultimately opened their trust to him. An incredible feat in itself. The transparency in his practice is extremely helpful. Having everything out in the open enables both the child and the parent to benefit - and it has! I cannot thank Dr. Rosen enough. Top of the line review from me.
