Dr. Matthew Spivey, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon
167 Moore Rd, Ste 202, King, NC
I am a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. I also practice general orthopedics, treating common fractures and other orthopedic injuries. My practice primarily focuses on treating shoulder and knee injuries and problems, as well as a wide range of other sports-related injuries. My surgical expertise includes shoulder arthroscopy and knee arthroscopy, cartilage restoration procedures, shoulder and upper arm fracture surgery, and shoulder replacement surgery. Sports and athletics have always been a huge part of my life, so my path to orthopedic sports medicine began long before my medical training. Like many athletes, I had several injuries that required treatment to allow me to keep doing the things that I love. Those first-hand encounters with orthopedic care left a lasting impression and made my specialty choice feel like a natural fit. The best part of my job is the opportunity to help a patient get back to doing something they care about. We start by working to identify and diagnose the problem you are having. Just as importantly, I want to understand the impact it is having on your life. This allows us to develop a shared understanding of what you're facing and all the available treatment options. I believe that patients are best served when they feel informed and empowered to make decisions about their care. Our ultimate goal is to work together to develop the best individualized treatment plan for you. Outside of the office, I have the pleasure of working with a team of Novant Health providers on the sidelines to take care of high school athletes in our local community. During my training I served as an assistant team physician for multiple high school and collegiate sports teams including the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams, the William & Mary Tribe, the Shaw University Bears, the North Carolina State Wolfpack and my alma mater the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.
