What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a very involved therapist. Most of my training is in emotional and somatic orientations to therapy, which means that we will integrate experiential and emotion based interventions and strategies into traditional talk based therapy. I have found through my time in the field and teaching (and the research backs this up), that simply talking about a concern is not always sufficiently healing. Therefore, we will focus on HOW you are talking about your concerns. We will pause to take time for and allow the experience and resolve of painful emotions. Our work will also allow ample time to support you in learning new ways of relating to yourself, your emotions, and others. My thoughtful approach cultivated by many years practicing, teaching, and supervising is slow yet sufficiently challenging, intensive yet restorative, and down-to-earth yet productive. I am a very involved psychologist and have been described by clients as having a special brand of "compassionate accountability." I genuinely believe in your ability to heal and do better; thus, I am committed to being in this with you. REALLY IMPORTANT: After you request an appointment I will send you an email with more information. You will typically receive the email within a few hours of your request. Please make sure you respond to my email so I may confirm your appointment and communicate next steps about new client on-boarding.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I typically ask new clients to consider committing to at least three sessions. This is because we know that the relationship between client and psychologist is crucial, and it takes time to build that comfort, rapport, and trust. Traditionally, I will use the first few sessions to get to know you, your concerns, and for us to design together a plan that will support you in moving toward you healing goals. From there, we enter the "working" stage of therapy, which may include teaching skills, practicing them, addressing key concerns and/or painful moments in order to support you in experiencing, expressing, and resolving difficult emotion. The length of the working stage varies from person to person. We will check-in about our progress throughout to ensure if we need to switch gears and/or if we discover something new we need to address, that we do so effectively. REALLY IMPORTANT: After you request an appointment I will send you an email with more information. You will typically receive the email within a few hours of your request. Please make sure you respond to my email so I may confirm your appointment and communicate next steps about new client on-boarding.
