Dr. Abebe earned her bachelor's degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, and her master's degree in biomedical science from the Pennsylvania College of Osteopathic Medicine, also in Philadelphia. She then pursued her optometry degree at the esteemed SUNY College of Optometry in New York.
Dr. Meklit Abebe, OD, is an experienced and dedicated optometrist committed to providing comprehensive eye care to her patients. Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Dr. Abebe brings a unique perspective and a wealth of experience to her practice.
While at SUNY Optometry, Dr. Abebe had the opportunity to rotate through the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Wilmington, DE, and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. She also had the privilege of traveling to Oaxaca, Mexico, for a mission trip, where she served over 300 patients, providing much-needed eye care services.

This was my first visit and it was for a painful eye following eyelid surgery, which made this a medical visit vs eye exam. Dr Abebe, after a thorough check of my eye, explained what was going on and what to do to fix it. She’s a delightful person as well as very professional as is Cathy, her assistant.
When I make my yearly exam it will be with Dr Abebe.

From the moment I arrived the front staff was very friendly and welcoming. Dr. Meklit took her time to exam my eyes ,explained each step clearly and addressed my concern with genuine care. The modern equipment and attention to details was perfect. I left with better understanding of my eye care and beyond . oh and we chit chat too ?? .I thank all the team. You are amazing!!!!

I highly recommend Founders Eyecare and Dr. Meklit Abebe, O.D. I came away extremely impressed with the professional care provided and amiable manner of both Dr. Abebe and her optician assistant Kathy.
It was very easy and straightforward to schedule an appointment online. The office followed up with a reminder about the appointment and online insurance forms so I could take care of this before arriving.
The office is inviting and pleasant, with a clean and uncluttered look, and has the latest technical equipment.
Dr. Abebe took time to listen to my concerns and perform a thorough exam with no sense of rushing. She had thoughtful suggestions about how "mono-vision" contacts could improve my near/mid vision. .
Kathy was very knowledgeable about options for glasses frames that would be right for my face shape and lens prescription.
I have recommended Founders Eyecare for my wife and son and would not hesitate to suggest the practice to friends and neighbors.

Outstanding experience. Highly recommended to everyone. Kathy removed my lenses and cleaned them because the groove where the rim fit into the lens was very dirty. Kathy also readjusted my frame like a pro. Dr. Abebe is equally personable and professional.

My son had a routine exam with Dr. Abebe. She was on time, kind, thorough, and very communicative about the exam. She didn't make us feel rushed and was willing to answer questions.
While there, I also looked at glasses for myself. Kathy was a wealth of knowledge about not only which glasses fit my face, but what type of lenses I would need to make my glasses work best. I was amazed at what I learned from her about what I should get. I found her more knowledgeable and helpful than the optician at my ophthalmologist's office.
If you need an eye exam, I whole-heartedly recommend visiting Founder's Eyecare. If you need new glasses, also come here. The service is unmatched.

Dr. Abebe is so kind and wonderful. She really takes the time to get to know her patients & respond to their needs. I did a routine eye exam and had to get a new prescription/ frames. Her staff was also amazing. She opened up her private practice 8 months ago so the office is really nice and modern. I would highly recommend her.
