Dr. Michael Colombatto, PsyD

Psychologist
IL
My primary method for helping others is through client-centered therapy, where the most important goal is to walk alongside you, trying to understand the world from your perspective. My approach is non-judgmental and down-to-earth. I connect with others by fostering empathy to establish a meaningful and genuine relationship. People often have mixed feelings and thoughts that prevent them from finding solutions to their problems. My role is to assist you in untangling ambivalence and helping you reach your own solutions. Because every person is unique, we will work together to construct a treatment plan that includes your goals and the subsequent steps needed to resolve or manage your changing circumstances. In addition to client-centered approaches, I use evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing. I specialize in working with adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, substance use, and addiction. My previous work experience includes outpatient clinics, psychiatric hospitals, community mental health agencies, addiction treatment facilities, jails, and safety-net healthcare systems. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University and have been a licensed clinical psychologist for over 30 years.
