“I've been working with Dr. Marossy for over a year and I can't overstate the wonderful period of discovery and growth that he is leading me through. From my childhood and deep into my law enforcement career, I've followed very typical examples of suppressing emotions, bottling up anger, relational withdrawal, and other unhealthy patterns that have caused me to distance myself from the people I need and love most in my life. For my entire life until last year, I resisted therapy and now I wish it were possible to have had Dr. Marossy and his thoughtful, intuitive, non-judgmental approach 20 years ago. I can't recommend highly enough.”

Getting to know Dr. Michael Marossy

Dr. Michael Marossy is a clinician and researcher who specializes in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, and relational difficulties. He works with adolescents, adults, and couples, and his treatment approach is most effective with clients who hope to improve their self-understanding as a result of treatment. Dr. Marossy graduated with his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology. His clinical experience includes working in university counseling centers (Azusa Pacific University, Vanguard University), community mental health clinics (Fuller Psychological and Family Services), and hospital settings (Meier Clinics). Receiving training experiences in a wide variety of clinical settings has prepared Dr. Marossy to work with clients with a wide range of symptom severity and from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Dr. Marossy’s research is focused on the question of how to include religious and spiritual factors in treatment in ways that are both culturally and interpersonally responsible. He enjoys working with clients from all faith traditions, and he has extensive experience and expertise in working with Christian clients. Dr. Marossy previously worked as a Clinical Supervisor and Adjunct Professor at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology before moving on to start his own private practice, Seek Psychological Services Inc.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I utilize a highly collaborative and relational approach that helps relieve your distress by expanding your understanding of who you are and where you have choice and agency in the world. Instead of using manualized or one-size-fits all treatments, I see each therapy as a unique opportunity to create a new healing relationship in which my clients and I can work together to discover their personal path towards wellness. While I recognize the general value of psychological diagnoses for understanding my clients' symptoms, I do not see diagnoses as the central focus of treatment. Instead, I believe the best way to address the distress brought about by psychological conditions is to get to know the story of the person who is suffering. My general conviction is that the difficulties my clients face are brought about by a combination of the challenging circumstances of their life and the approaches they are using to face those challenges. This means that therapy involves a combination of grieving the distress that is beyond our control and recognizing how we are contributing to it. I believe the ultimate reward of this difficult but important work is a life that feels more connected, meaningful, spontaneous, and authentic. Being with my clients in the low seasons of their lives so that they can move through their distress into such outcomes is an honor that brings me great joy and purpose in my own life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the initial session, I begin by inviting my clients to share the concerns that bring them to treatment, including the history behind the concern (how long?), and what is leading them to address it at that time (why now?). As I learn the broad details of the client's treatment needs, I then provide a general understanding of how I might approach their concerns within my treatment frame. The goal in this initial session is simply to explore whether we seem to be a good fit to work together. In the second session, I collaborate with my client to establish clear goals for treatment and conduct a brief clinical intake. This clinical intake allows me to gather relevant background information for assisting with treatment and to gain a general understanding of the major aspects of my client's history/story. In the third session and beyond, the treatment phase begins. I start each session by inviting my clients to share openly about whatever enters their mind, and I collaborate with them to help them connect their associations with the goals we have established for treatment. From here, the each therapy takes a unique direction that aligns with the personal needs and characteristics of the client.

Dr. Marossy is a very understanding and caring professional in his field. He is great at listening to whatever you have on your mind and working with you towards your goal. I highly recommend him and have been a patient of his for over a year and have experienced tremendous personal growth through working with him. I encourage you to reach out to him if you are seeking professional assistance.
Hard to even articulate how Michael has changed my life for the better. Professional, does the job, and cares about me. I'm a different person one year later; I think we both are. I describe this work as the two of us triggering the most pained aspects of myself. This process causes protective layers to recede, and Michael provides support to the vulnerable and activated individual before the layers seal back up. Scary, but I could always push back when I was overwhelmed. This work has profoundly stabilized me. Michael is exceptionally capable, perhaps even born for this type of work. I was able to discuss religious/spiritual matters whenever I wanted, and he was able to play along. Or back down when the discussion of religious upbringing was too sensitive. I was able to talk men's issues regularly and comfortably. He's keenly attentive to my state, and early in the work he helped me notice myself dissociating. He's a young dude too, so at times it was like hanging out with my bro.??
Dr. Marossy is incredibly kind, caring, and patient. I've had nothing but great experiences working with him and can't recommend him enough!
Dr. Marossy is simply the best. He was the first therapist that was willing to work with my ever changing work schedule and didn't see it as a reason to not be my therapist (this has happened in the past). He helped me work through traumatic experiences I had with work, as well as helped with my transition into post college life. Dr. Marossy created a safe space for me to be my full self and a space to verbally process everything going on in my head. He helped guide me to figure out answers to my own questions. I left every session feeling empowered to conquer my anxiety and continue to work on being the best version of myself I could be. I could not recommend Dr. Marossy enough for therapy!
Marossy approaches therapy in a way where you know you are being listened to. He is patient, non-judgmental, and easy to open up too. I was his patient for about 2 years and he helped me work through some of the toughest months of my life. I greatly recommend him as a therapist, especially for those struggling with chronic illness.
Dr. Marossy is a breath of fresh air. The first thing that struck me about him was his clarity. I've seen a number of therapists, some of them quite caring, but none of them really "saw" me the way I felt with Dr. Marossy. He was so patient with me, as I have a habit of repeating myself, and helped me navigate through a crisis... until the root issues began to show themselves. I never felt "therapized" (does that makes sense??) there was a natural flow to the sessions while he asked me questions and gave insight that led me to some of the questions I had been avoiding. If you are reading this, you deserve the peace that came out of my time with Dr. Marossy. I feel like I'm no longer struggling to keep my head above the water, and I hope you can find that too
My experience of therapy was great. There was respect, listening, understanding and all the good things that a therapist should have. it was easy to express and a safe space without judgments. Highly recommend the Doc even if all you initially want to do is talk. Especially if you are just being introduced to psychotherapy.
