Dr. Michael A. Palese is the Chairman of Urology at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery for the Mount Sinai Health System. He specializes in robotic, laparoscopic, and endoscopic surgery.
Dr. Palese earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed his residency in urology at the University of Maryland and a fellowship in robotic and laparoscopic surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. As a board-certified urologist and fellowship-trained surgeon, he is an expert in diagnosing and treating kidney, ureter, adrenal, bladder, and prostate diseases, with a special emphasis on minimally invasive surgery.
He is a leading authority in the research and treatment of kidney disease, particularly kidney cancer and kidney stones. Among a select group of surgeons in the United States trained in open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery, he has performed over 3,000 kidney procedures using these techniques.
Dr. Palese is a world-recognized surgeon and scholar, as well as a pioneer in developing new treatments and technologies. He performed the first robotic radical nephrectomy, robotic partial nephrectomy, robotic donor nephrectomy, robotic nephroureterectomy, robotic adrenalectomy, and robotic ureteral reimplantation and reconstruction at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He also holds several patents for novel surgical device designs.

It was my first visit, in essence a consultation. I met with Dr Paleses' assistant who was very competent with an excellent demeanor. We went over my issues and I felt very comfortable with him. Then Dr Palese came in to talk to me and he immediately put me at ease even more so that I already was. We went over options, decided on a course of action based on our conversation and i will see him again in 4-6 weeks to go over how i feel and what we can do to move forward to achieve my goals. Overall it was an excellent first visit.

He’s great! ZocDoc however created an appointment that would have been impossible since the doctor does not work at the office location on the date where it offered and confirmed the appointment! Dr. Palese and his fellow were genuinely interested in my issue and getting to the root cause. Though I will have to see a few additional specialists, they were the first doctors I've seen who were more interested in finding the cause and fixing it rather than just treating the symptoms. Their bedside manner was great - explaining everything to me and answering all of my questions but without making me feel like I was unintelligent. They treated me with respect - I highly recommend them!
