Dr. Boswell’s career began as a behavioral therapist, using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and learning theory to help individuals and families affected by developmental disabilities throughout Ventura County. Dr. Boswell’s training spans the spectrum of age. She trained within UCLA’s Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Tic Disorders department ultimately working her clinical hours within the pediatric OCD Intensive Outpatient Program. She spent a year honing her skills as a Dialectical Behavioral Therapist (DBT) for adults and adolescents under Dr. Jamie Bedics at California Lutheran University (CLU). California Lutheran University’s DBT program was developed by Dr. Jamie Bedics, in collaboration with Dr. Marsha Linehan, the creator of DBT, and funded by a grant for dissemination of DBT as an evidence based practice, providing world class DBT training. Dr. Boswell completed an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship with Black Hills Veteran Affairs in South Dakota where she trained in specialty rotations of neuropsychological assessment, trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD treatment, and Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI). Since earning her doctorate at California Lutheran University, Dr. Boswell has worked in integrated care with Community Memorial Hospital, rounding out her clinical experiences. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Boswell is an adjunct professor at California Lutheran University, teaching for their Doctorate in Clinical Psychology program.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In addition to Dr. Boswell’s clinical passion, she is an avid athlete, enjoying all forms of the outdoors. She loves hiking, swimming, martial arts, soccer, and most other sports. Her recreational passions have allowed her to expand her educational interests to sports psychology and performance psychology. Dr. Boswell’s research focused on the cross-section of her specialty training in mindfulness and sports performance. She enjoys working with athletes on mental skills training, allowing them the inside edge on the competition and performance through mental training and preparation. She provides mental skills trainings to coaches, teams, individual athletes, and organizations in order to help them push the limits of their potential. She often uses these skills to increase team building, confidence building, and attentional control as an added benefit with her clinical practice patients as well.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Dr. Boswell provides short-term, evidence-based therapies that are firmly rooted in current scientific research. Her overarching goal for therapy is to (1) facilitate insight and knowledge, (2) teach skills to support goal achievement and utilize skills to meet goals, and (3) successfully manage daily life with a greater sense of well-being. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is a broad, solution-focused approach that helps individuals understand the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This approach suggests that if one factor is improved, the other two will follow suit, as they are all connected. It's effective for a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, and relationship problems.
