“Dr. Velásquez has helped me more than I can put into words. From the very beginning, she has given me a safe space to be honest without feeling judged, and that alone has been life changing. She has helped me understand my emotions instead of fighting them, build healthier boundaries, and develop tools to manage anxiety and overwhelm, especially during moments when I feel stretched thin as both a parent and a professional. Through our work together, I have learned how to communicate more clearly, be gentler with myself, and break patterns that no longer serve me. I feel more grounded, more self aware, and more confident navigating daily life because of her support, and I am truly grateful for the progress I have made with her guidance.”

Getting to know Dr. Natalia Velasquez

Dr. Natalia Velásquez is a clinical psychologist licensed in Florida. In her work with you, Dr. Velásquez strives to create a safe, genuine, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space for growth and healing. She will help you cultivate greater awareness of how your thoughts and feelings may be affecting you, teach you how to honor your emotional experiences in a more self-compassionate way, and assist you in detaching from beliefs that may no longer be serving you. Dr. Velásquez will also help you identify what values bring your life meaning and importance, and assist you down the path to remove barriers that impede you from living a meaningful and valuable life. Thus, treatment with her may include sharing past and present experiences; exploring thoughts, emotions, and subsequent behaviors; and practicing therapeutic skills that you will learn in therapy to best fit your unique life circumstance. Dr. Velásquez specializes in applying evidence-based treatments, which are gold standard therapies that have the strongest research support. Dr. Velasquez primarily utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps clients reconnect with their present moment experiences, relate differently to their thoughts, feelings, and past/present experiences; and re-engage with what brings them true meaning in life. This unique approach helps clients build a healthier relationship with thoughts and emotions; one that enables individuals to live more in line with what they value, free of suffering.

What should a new client know about working with you?

A new client should know that working with me means entering a safe, genuine, and nonjudgmental space where your experiences are honored and respected. I strive to meet clients with compassion and authenticity, and I believe that healing begins with developing a kinder, more understanding relationship with yourself. Therapy with me focuses on increasing awareness of how thoughts, emotions, and beliefs may be impacting your life, while helping you relate to them in more flexible and self-compassionate ways. I specialize in evidence-based, gold-standard treatments and primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients reconnect with what gives their lives meaning. As a second-generation American and Latinx psychologist, I am deeply committed to culturally responsive care and to supporting individuals from diverse and marginalized backgrounds. You can expect therapy to be collaborative, values-driven, and focused on helping you move toward a life that feels purposeful, authentic, and aligned with what matters most to you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with building a strong therapeutic relationship and gaining a thorough understanding of your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. We explore your past and present experiences, as well as patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that may be contributing to distress. Together, we identify personal values and clarify what a meaningful life looks like for you. Using ACT and other evidence-based interventions when appropriate, we work on developing skills to help you stay present, relate differently to difficult thoughts and emotions, and gently detach from beliefs that are no longer serving you. Therapy is tailored to your unique life circumstances, and sessions often include practicing skills you can apply outside of therapy. Over time, the focus shifts toward removing barriers that stand between you and your values, empowering you to live with greater clarity, resilience, and purpose.
