About Dr. Natalya Rooney

Dr. Natalya Rooney received her Bachelor of Science degree from Adelphi University in 2009 and her Doctor of Optometry degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry in 2013. While at SUNY College of Optometry, Dr. Rooney completed rotations with an emphasis on ocular disease and pediatrics.
Throughout her career, Dr. Rooney has worked in various medical settings across Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island, focusing primarily on ocular disease.
She currently practices full-scope primary care optometry with a passion for Dry Eye Disease, Myopia (nearsightedness) control, and Glaucoma. Dr. Rooney offers various treatments designed to address the core of each patient’s problem.
Dr. Rooney is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the New York State Optometric Association, and the Nassau County Optometric Society, which allows her to stay up to date and utilize the most recent optometric research.
Overall, she is a concerned and mindful optometrist dedicated to helping her patients receive the best available treatment so they can enjoy a positive and fulfilling lifestyle. She is sensitive to the uniqueness of each patient’s situation and adapts her consultations and treatment options to accommodate individual needs and concerns.
When Dr. Rooney is not helping her patients with their vision, she enjoys spending time with her family—her husband and two beautiful children. She loves traveling and anything Disney.
She is proud to be part of the Merrick community, where she resides, and hopes to bring her passion and care in the optometric field to her neighborhood. She is also a member of the PTA and SEPTA in the Merrick community.

This office were not able to verify my insurance and wanted me to pay upfront instead of calling me ahead to inform me. These are very bad practices, specially when you are dealing with people’s health. They made me wait for over 30 minutes before I was told the issue with my insurance, very bad experience, they made me waste my time filling out forms and asking me questions before I was asked for payment in front. I have two insurances and they couldn’t verify either, very frustrating and disappointing.

I was blown away by the welcoming staff and the extremely competent doctor and technicians. The office has all of the state of the art equipment to do a proper eye exam (and then some!). I am a huge technology nerd, so when they asked me to put on a VR head set for a peripheral vision test I was floored. The technician was super precise and knew how to work all of the equipment without any issues. I went in for a normal eye exam to update my prescription only to find out that the main doctor is a dry eye specialist. I immediately scheduled a follow up for a dry eye exam and I am now finally treating my dry eyes after years of discomfort. Highly recommend this office.

I had my last eye exam 1 year ago. This exam showed significant change. The worsening vision was really getting me down. By the end of the visit, I had new contacts that restored my vision to 20/20. Doctor Rooney was great-clearly knows her stuff. Office has all the latest technology but the doctor does not push it unless needed. Staff were helpful and efficient as well. The doctor herself was excellent. The office was also selling eye glasses, and the sales rep. was extremely pushy to buy glasses the same day without consideration for my time or budget. The sales pressure and pushiness made the end of the visit unpleasant. I liked the doctor and the front desk staff, but not the immense sales pressure.

I wish I had known that there was a substitute doctor, especially since this was the first time in the office. She did not do a thorough exam. No glaucoma testing. No eye dilation. I'm not even sure if she gave me the right prescription. I felt bad not buying glasses from them but that's not why I was there.

My experience was smooth from booking my appointment to the end of my visit. The receptionist Laura is absolutely lovely and accommodating. The doctor was more thorough than any other doctor I’ve seen before. She was friendly, but not in a fake way. Their office was pristine and had a wide selection of frames to choose from. I’d rate them a 10.

I really enjoyed meeting with Dr. Rooney, as she was incredibly informative and took preventative care measures for my vision. Dr. Rooney was able to explain the current state of my eye health, how to maintain it, and areas to improve quite thoroughly, more than I've ever had from another optometrist. Dr. Rooney was incredibly empathetic, as was her team in assisting me in my frames search. I am looking forward to returning to pick up my frames and continue to receive my eye care with Dr. Rooney and her office (staff were very kind and thorough as well, office was clean and well decorated).
