“I really appreciate the care I've received from Dr. Brooks. He's done an excellent job of informing me about my treatment options while simultaneously listening to my past experiences and valuing my input. I've had other doctors who parade their expertise in a way that makes me feel like I'm not heard. Dr. Brooks has been the opposite. If he recommends something I haven't yet tried or wants to change approach I'm confident in trusting his opinion.”

Getting to know Dr. Nathaniel Brooks

I firmly believe in non-judgmental and compassionate care. Every patient is different and deserves individualized care that addresses their needs and concerns while receiving the highest level of evidence-based treatments. I also believe that overall nutrition and physical health are integral parts of improving mental health and well-being. I was drawn to psychiatry because I enjoy connecting with my patients. Understanding a person's background and experiences plays a significant role in their treatment and response, and psychiatry gives me the opportunity to look beyond just a physical exam or lab test and use the overall human experience as the basis for treatment. I'm excited to be part of a clinic that prioritizes the best mental health experience for every patient, from staff who truly care to the most effective mental health treatments available. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine and completed my residency at East Carolina University, Vidant Medical Center. I have a wife, two young children (with plans for more), and our dog who's been with us since college. I recently set a goal to become fluent in Spanish, and in my free time, I enjoy volunteering, sports, and outdoor activities.

Dr Brooks is the kindest psychiatrist we ever met
The office was so polite and made me feel welcome. I felt like I was heard by Dr. Brooks and that we are on the same page with my treatment plan.
The staff at Serenity are wonderful. They are kind, helpful, and always respond with the right sense of urgency. I have already recommended Dr. Brooks to family - he is one of the few doctors who listens, responds with empathy, and truly looks to find the true root cause of issues. His treatment plan has made a huge difference in my life; it’s the first time in my life I feel good.
Dr. Brooks is very good at what he does because he lisens to the client and their concerns and then explains the different ways he thinks will best help you improve your life. The one thing i like about him is that he takes your concerns about medications seriously and finds the best one that will work. It is so nice to have Doctor who listens to you and does not just talk to you about what they are going to do.
