About Dr. Obinna Akano
Dr. Akano believes that being knowledgeable about the treatment of ocular diseases and the ocular manifestations of systemic diseases is important, but equally, if not more important, is understanding prevention, the risk factors associated with these diseases, and the value of health education. Having this knowledge and being able to effectively communicate it to patients is priceless. To provide a more holistic approach to his practice, Dr. Akano earned his Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from Imo State University. He then pursued a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2013. Still eager to expand his expertise, he completed a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Epidemiology at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in 2018.
Dr. Akano is actively involved in clinical and public health research, with an increasing number of publications to his credit. He is deeply passionate about his work and understands that patients not only want to be seen promptly but also desire the highest standard of care. This is why he makes himself easily accessible and provides exceptional bedside manner.
Certified in the treatment and management of ocular diseases, Dr. Akano offers comprehensive services at I and Eye Optometry. These include diagnosis and management of glaucoma, diabetic eye exams, dry eye disease treatment, cataract evaluation, and management of other visual system disorders. Additionally, he provides optical aids such as glasses and contact lenses, supported by a well-experienced staff.
