About Dr. Omar Shakir
Dr. Shakir is the founding partner of Coastal Eye Surgeons. He is board-certified in Ophthalmology and Yale fellowship-trained, specializing in Cataract and Retinal Surgery. He serves as an Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Yale University.
Highly personalized eye care and surgery is what he considers the pride of his practice. Dr. Shakir completed medical school at Albany Medical College and was part of the prestigious Leadership in Medicine program. In medical school, Dr. Shakir earned multiple ophthalmology research awards and spent time at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University doing world-class research. He furthered his medical training with internship at Johns Hopkins University and residency at the University of Florida. He then went on to complete a two-year Vitreous and Retina Surgery Fellowship at Yale University.
Dr. Shakir was born and raised on the Space Coast of Florida. He left the Sunshine State after high school for the Empire State where he played Division III College Baseball and was a Liberty League Scholar-Athlete at Union College. As a Presidential scholar at Union, he graduated with honors in Political Science and Biology.

The doctor is great but the reception staff was unfriendly and made the process much more difficult then necessary in terms of paperwork I needed and just being unfriendly. We need a happier experience for things like this. They are the front line and I was disappointed with their attitudes.

Dr. Shakir did a great job of making me feel at ease about my eye emergency. He was pleasant and made me feel comfortable, and diagnosed my issue quickly.
His staff was friendly and beyond efficient, and I can’t say enough about how wonderful my experience was. As a nurse, I can honestly say that from both a clinical and patient perspective, this is the place to go for ophthalmological care.

My first impression was the front staff. Awesome friendly and personable.
My second experience was the technicians that did my eye exam. They asked detailed questions and explained each step and if you needed to do it again they pleasantly obliged.
When I saw Dr Omar Shakir for my final exam of results and his findings, he was very through.
I can recommend Costal Eye Surgeons without hesitation.

Wonderful first visit to Coastal Eye Surgeons today. I just went for a general eye exam as I’ve not been in years.
Office was clean, sanitized and comfortable. The team was welcoming and very nice. The nurse that did the initial exam was excellent, efficient and explained things clearly and concisely.
The doctor was also excellent and explained all aspects of the process and results in a easy and detailed way. It was a very pleasant experience and I will return.
