He went to medical school at the New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY where he completed clinical rotations in the busy hospitals of New York City. As a recipient of the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program, Dr. Yam attained a Naval Officer Commission, which led to his psychiatry residency training at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. During Dr. Yam’s time in the U.S. Navy, he served as the Department Head of Behavioral Health at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in New Orleans, Louisiana, and later as the Head of Embedded Mental Health at Mayport Naval Station in Jacksonville, Florida. As an avid teacher for medical students, nurse practitioner students, and physician residents, he also served as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry for the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine. Dr. Yam aims to connect with every patient seeking his care. His philosophy is based on the doctor-patient relationship being the vehicle to recovery. At Serenity, he is glad to offer the latest and best treatments available, including medication management, ketamine therapy, and TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), which are all available in-house at the beautiful, relaxing, spa-like clinic at Serenity in Nocatee, Florida.
