Dr. Pia Salk, PsyD, MA

Psychologist
NY
Life's uncertainties naturally bring up feelings and fears for all of us. I am here to listen, support, and help. That said, I believe YOU are the expert on yourself, and my role is to provide skilled listening as we identify the issues and search together for solutions. While I treat a broad spectrum of concerns, clients often find me due to a shared worldview that includes pets as family members, animal welfare, and compassion fatigue. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Phillips Graduate University, a Master's in Clinical Psychology from Georgia State University, and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan. I can meet in person in Sleepy Hollow, NY (10591 zip code) or via telehealth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is quite down to earth. I believe wholeheartedly in the adage, "assume nothing." While I listen actively, I am also interactive and offer feedback. Goals are set by the client but efforts to address them are collaborative. My intention is always to make clients comfortable and feel safe to explore the issues at hand. I encourage clients to bring pets if they wish to as I value the human-animal bond and believe in it's therapeutic value.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions are not bound to any particular approach or agenda. Some clients have been in therapy before and others are just getting curious about it so that is often a topic we often address early on. At times I find that a clients previous experience in therapy has been disappointing or troubling for them. So that can be useful to explore to assure a more fruitful and fulfilling experience. I do my best to make clients feel comfortable and to relay that it's normal to be nervous and that there is no right or wrong way to begin.
