Dr. Pulak Patel, MD

Sports Medicine Specialist
2400 S Blvd, Ste 103, Charlotte, NC
Growing up in a household with two physician parents, medicine always felt like a possible path for me. But it was my love of math and science that showed me it could be my true calling. While I first thought I would specialize in pediatrics, I discovered I liked treating adults just as much. Family medicine turned out to be the perfect fit, because I get to care for the whole spectrum of ages. Every day is different - from wellness visits to ankle sprains, rashes or headaches - and that variety keeps me on my toes. Getting to know patients over time is deeply fulfilling. I have some patients who were single when I started seeing them and now are married with children of their own. During residency, I sought extra training through the University of Arizona's Integrative Medicine in Residency program and found myself especially drawn to caring for athletes and active people who wanted to get back to doing what they love. That interest led me to complete a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center, and today I get to combine both fields: treating the whole person while helping them stay active and healthy. I also value working closely with athletic trainers, coaches and other members of the care team, because good outcomes usually come from a group effort. I am board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and hold a Certificate of Added Qualification in sports medicine. Over the years, I have served as team physician for several area high schools and universities. Each year I also review electrocardiograms for student athletes through the Heart of a Champion screening program, work that reflects my dedication to keeping young athletes safe. Being able to speak Spanish and Gujarati with many of my patients has let me build closer connections with them, which matters a great deal to me. I live close to work and find real meaning in serving the community I call home.
