As part of a Global Scholars Program, she lived in 3 countries through medical school and has aimed to adopt a global and culturally diverse understanding of mental health. She has worked at health care centers in the Dominican Republic, Grenada, India and Kenya. While in Kenya, she worked on a mental health initiative tackling Gender Based Violence with Harvard/MGH and is the creator of an award winning mental health advocacy film, which she shot and directed in India with Mount Sinai and the MINDS Foundation. She has blended her passion for media and mental health, by working as a medical journalist at the ABC News Medical Unit, writing articles for their digital platform and medical scripts for Good Morning America. She was a featured psychiatrist in the UNICEF campaign for International Day of the Girl and is an advisor at a California based mental health start up. Dr. Kalra believes that empathy and the physician-patient relationship are central to treatment. She understands that each patient has unique needs and believes in a collaborative approach, where the physician and patient work together to develop individualized treatment goals
