About Dr. Richard Katz

Richard Katz is the Bloedorn Professor and Director of the Division of Cardiology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from New York University, completed his residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, and pursued a fellowship in Cardiology at Georgetown University. Dr. Katz joined the faculty of George Washington University in 1979. After 18 years as Director of GW Noninvasive Cardiology, he became Director of the Division of Cardiology in 1997. Under his leadership, the GW cardiology faculty has grown to more than 15 full-time faculty members, supported by a team of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, technicians, and research and other support staff. In 2005, made possible by a founding gift from Vice President Richard B. Cheney, Dr. Katz also became the Director of the GW Heart and Vascular Institute. The Institute sponsors a wide range of academic programs promoting education, research, and community service.
