About Dr. Richard Marvel

I have dedicated my practice for over 15 years to the evaluation and management of women with chronic pelvic and vulvar pain. The key to success is listening to the patient tell her story. We do a comprehensive evaluation of the patient using their available old records, imaging reports, and other results, with a comprehensive history and physical exam to determine the nature and components of the pain problem. We outline an interdisciplinary treatment program to allow the patient to improve over time. We treat the entire patient not just a lab, or imaging study. With perseverance, more than 90% of our patients can achieve a state where pain is no longer a big factor in their life. We are able to provide minimally invasive treatments in this management. The vast majority of our surgical procedures are done laparoscopically to allow patients to recover more quickly and return to their normal life.

This was my first visit with Dr. Marvel. He had a great bedside manner and was to the point and took his time and asked me questions and asked me if I had any questions. He was very nice.

Dr. Marvel quickly answered a question I have been investigating for over a year. Within minutes, Dr. Marvel was able to provide a potential diagnosis that was later confirmed at examination. He took the time to talk through all of my symptoms, what they mean, and how to manage them. I am so relieved to have found him!

He was extremely unprofessional--he gave me no gets up when inserting the speculum, and he was very judgy. I mentioned starting a family, and he waited until the pelvic exam to question if my partner is the right man to marry, as his fingers were inside me. No communication, judgy, and inappropriate. The entire physical exam, he was questioning my partner with no detail about them whatsoever.
Good listener and took my concerns seriously, explained things well. He clearly takes pain seriously- the office offers laughing gas for IUD removal&insertion and other in office procedures. My first IUD insertion with a different dr was horrific. This experience was so much better. The combined effect of the medications prescribed to take before the procedure and the laughing gas and lidocaine administered during the procedure made my IUD removal and insertion way less uncomfortable and traumatic. Still felt some pain but it was no where near as bad as my first IUD insertion, and with the gas I didn’t really care.
