“It turns out that Dr. Park is not in my network, which she made sure to let me know of ahead of our appointment via email. When I said I can’t afford to pay out of pocket she offered to send me a list of recommended therapists in my network. Such a kind offer and well above her level of obligation. Thank you!!”

“ I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Kim. Because my concerns were deeply rooted in my bicultural background (U.S. and Korea), it was essential for me to find a psychologist with literacy in both cultures. Luckily, Dr. Kim has exactly that cultural literacy. I especially appreciated the free consultation call. Rather than treating it as a brief procedural step, she took the time to genuinely understand my needs and make sure that we were a good fit. Even before our first formal session, she reviewed my concerns and followed up multiple times within 24 hours to ensure her guidance was accurate and that we were aligned. For me, two qualities define a great mental health professional: expertise-based sensibility and genuine empathy. Dr. Kim has both. I felt her care right away. For anyone who has been struggling for a long time, I sincerely hope her guidance can help you navigate your way toward the light just as it has helped me.”

Getting to know Dr. SangHee Park

I am a licensed clinical psychologist providing individual, couples, and family therapy, as well as psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. People come to therapy for many reasons. Sometimes there is a clear concern such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, stress, or a major life transition. At other times, there may be a broader sense of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure why certain patterns keep repeating. My approach is integrative and individualized. I draw from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, acceptance-based, mindfulness-based, and relational approaches while considering your history, relationships, current circumstances, strengths, and goals. Before returning to the field of psychology for an advanced degree, I worked internationally in banking. That experience broadened my perspective on work, achievement, identity, cultural transitions, and the pressures of demanding professional environments. In therapy, we may explore how earlier experiences continue to shape the present, better understand recurring emotional or relational patterns, and develop more effective ways of responding to difficult thoughts, feelings, and situations. I value both insight and practical change. Having lived and worked across different cultures, I am also attentive to the ways culture, family expectations, identity, and life context shape how we understand ourselves and relate to others. I provide services in both English and Korean and also have conversational fluency in Japanese.. For clients seeking a psychological evaluation, I provide individualized assessments designed to clarify questions related to emotional, behavioral, learning, attention, developmental, and other areas of functioning. My goal is to offer a thoughtful understanding of both strengths and areas of difficulty, along with recommendations that are clear and useful.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You don’t need to come to therapy already knowing exactly what is wrong or what you want to change. Many people begin with a general sense that something feels difficult, repetitive, overwhelming, or simply not quite right. We can start there. I will listen carefully, ask questions, offer observations, and help us notice patterns that may be difficult to see when you are in the middle of them. At times we may look more deeply at how earlier experiences or relationships continue to influence the present; at other times, we may focus on concrete strategies for navigating a situation differently. I also believe therapy should feel collaborative. I welcome your feedback about what is or is not helpful, and we can adjust our work as your needs evolve. My goal is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to help you develop a stronger understanding of yourself, greater flexibility in how you respond to difficult experiences, and more freedom to make choices that feel consistent with who you want to be. Clients often come to me when they are thoughtful and capable in many areas of their lives but still find themselves struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, perfectionism, relationships, or patterns they understand intellectually but have difficulty changing emotionally. Therapy can be a place to bridge that gap between understanding something and actually experiencing change. For clients seeking a psychological evaluation, I take a similarly individualized and thoughtful approach. My goal is not simply to arrive at a diagnosis, but to understand the full picture, clarify areas of strength and difficulty, and provide recommendations that are useful and meaningful in everyday life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We typically begin with a brief complimentary phone consultation. This gives us an opportunity to talk about what is bringing you in, what you are looking for, and whether my experience and approach seem like a good fit for your needs. We can also discuss practical questions such as scheduling, fees, and whether you prefer in-person or virtual services. For therapy, the first few sessions are focused on getting to know you more fully. I will ask about what is happening in your life now, relevant aspects of your history and relationships, previous experiences with therapy, and what you hope will be different as a result of our work together. From there, we develop a shared understanding of what may be contributing to the difficulties you are experiencing and identify priorities for therapy. The process is individualized rather than following a predetermined sequence. Depending on your needs, our sessions may involve exploring emotions and relationship patterns, understanding how past experiences influence the present, developing practical coping or communication strategies, or learning new ways to respond to difficult thoughts and feelings. For psychological evaluations, the process typically begins with a consultation to understand the referral question and determine what type of evaluation would be most appropriate. An evaluation may include clinical interviews, review of relevant records, standardized testing, and, when appropriate, information from parents, teachers, or other providers. After the evaluation is complete, we meet to review the findings, discuss recommendations, and answer questions. Whether you are coming for therapy or an evaluation, I aim for the process to feel thoughtful, collaborative, and tailored to your particular needs.

Dr. Park is absolutely amazing! I have spent months looking for the "right" therapist for me. Someone who really is present and is truly focused on listening as well as getting to the root of different "problems." In this day in age, so many services feel just like a transaction, but working with Dr. Park is the opposite. Which is exactly what I was searching for.
Dr. Park is an insightful and compassionate psychologist who creates a safe and supportive environment for her clients. She listens attentively and offers thoughtful guidance that feels both practical and deeply empathetic. I highly recommend Dr. Park for anyone seeking meaningful, long-term personal growth.
Dr. Park is very calming to talk to. She has been great in helping me deal with my stress and anxiety. She makes me feel very comfortable throughout our sessions.
Extremely misleading insurance information on Zocdoc and on the official website. Absolute lack of communication on the insurance leading up to the consultation. Cannot comment on therapeutic competency, but serious concerns about communication, which would be a cornerstone of this field.

Dr. Park is a compassionate and insightful therapist who creates a safe, supportive space for growth. She really cares about her patients. Highly recommended.
Dr. Park is great. She makes you feel comfortable, takes time to check in, and guides you through the process with genuine care.
Dr. Park was very good at helping me to better understand what I was going through at a very difficult time. I really appreciated her use of tests in combination with our therapy. I highly recommend her to others.
Dr. Park was warm & made me feel comfortable from our very first visit. She listened intently & allowed me to share without fear of judgement. If you are looking for a kind & knowledgeable doctor, I highly recommend Dr. Park.
Right from my very first session with Dr Park, I found it so easy to speak with her. I didn't know what to expect from therapy, but she made it very straightforward, and I've already started to make some big leaps forward, so I can say it works. Great job, Doc!
I've really benefitted from my time working with Dr Sophie. She's so warm and friendly, and really puts me at my ease every session. I wasn't in the best of places emotionally when I first started at CPP, but I can say that I'm back on track now, and that wouldn't have come about without her help.
