About Dr. Scott Haugen

Scott Haugen, O.D. received his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri–St. Louis College of Optometry in 1984, and earned his undergraduate degree in Physical Math and Science from Iowa State University. Dr. Haugen has been practicing optometry since 1984, with a special interest in specialty and hard-to-fit contact lenses. His own experience wearing eyeglasses and contacts while growing up helped him choose a career in optometry. As an optometrist, he particularly enjoys the personal interaction with his patients and building strong, long-lasting relationships with them and their families over the years.

Both Dr. Hougen and the staff are friendly, helpful, and direct. I feel like I'm being accurately assessed and treated as a patient not as a customer/source of income. I very much appreciate that any upselling in my glasses is done with useful features not with branding or pushing towards a more expensive product. I've been a patient of Dr Haughens for 30 years or there abouts. That's because I trust him. Aside from that, wherever he has practiced, his staff has also been outstanding. There's not a thing that i can think of that he could do better his practice.
Dr. Haugen did a thorough eye exam explaining eye changes and any recommendations. Brenda, the optician I worked with, was extremely helpful selecting a frame and explaining costs.

I have recommended Dr Haugen to family ----he's personable, thorough, knowledgeable and I feel a good value ------- one thing----replace that worn out loveseat in the waiting area. It's tacky and screams that you're not successful. They have great deals at American Furniture Warehouse.
Dr. Haugen spent extra time with me answering questions. I was there to have a check up and get new lenses. By listening to my observations and asking questions he made an adjustment to my prescription which we are hoping will have my eyes working together better. He also gave me an “exercise” to practice. Prior to the visit I did not think any thing could be done. It was a brain eye interface issue. It was not even on my mind but my eyes did it several times when his assistant was running the pre-scan. I mentioned it to his assistant because I thought it might mess up his scan. The assistant said “it was fine but I should mention it to Dr. Haugen”. Fingers crossed I am very interested to see what happens when I receive the new lenses.
