Getting to know Dr. Scott Su

Hi, my name is Dr. Scott Su, and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University. I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of California, San Diego. As a psychotherapist, I employ a flexible treatment style tailored to the needs of each person. Whether someone is seeking to overcome current challenges, address stressful events from the past, or simply explore and understand themselves, I aim to meet people where they are. Ultimately, my goal is to create a nonjudgmental space that fosters trust and collaboration. My professional style embraces a client-centered approach that integrates evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other mindfulness-based techniques. I also draw from the wisdom of the past by incorporating philosophical principles that offer pragmatic and contemporary application.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Most of my work with clients involves tackling depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. I see clients who are adolescents and older from all types of diverse backgrounds.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Session generally involves emotional processing followed by introspective insight and psychoeducation. I tend to allow clients to initially take the lead and guide the session while I actively listen and reflect back what I am hearing. Afterwards, I may ask questions that help clients to explore and deepen their understanding and awareness of themselves and their circumstances. I also try to bring in applicable psychological knowledge while training clients on developing coping techniques.
