About Dr. Scott Sylvia
Dr. Scott Sylvia did his undergraduate training at UMASS Dartmouth and received his Bachelors of Science in 1984 and his Doctorate in Optometry in 1986 from the New England College of Optometry in Boston. In 2000, he received his MBA with a concentration in Health Care administrative management and Marketing from Bryant College.
He was a staff optometrist at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care in Rhode Island from 1989-1997. He was involved in numerous projects during his tenure there. Along with seeing patients full time, he was chairperson of the Practice Standards Committee for Optometry and Ophthalmology, a member of the HIV/AIDS Act-One committee, the management/supervisory council, the Epicare computerized medical records committee, and was co-supervisor of the vision care department in the Lincoln Health Center. He was also a Diversity ambassador/trainer, and member of the corporate diversity steering committee and the corporate Health Triangle steering committee.
Dr.Sylvia is now in private practice at Parrelli Optical, performs primary eye care services and specializes in contact lenses. He is part of the Leadership Team from Vistakon. He is also part of the Clinical Faculty from the New England College of Optometry training interns in his office.
He is an affiliate doctor of the TLC Laser Eye centers and co-manages patients who undergo laser vision correction. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the AOA Contact lens and Cornea Section, The Mass Society of Optometrists, the Human Rights Campaign Federal Club, and the Greater Boston Business Council. He served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Boston Business Council as a Director at large, Treasurer, then President. He is currently on the Board of Directors of CRI serving as treasurer.

He spent just one minute on my prescription check and rushed through the pupil dilation exam. He should have waited 20 minutes for my pupils to fully dilate before examining my retina. Instead, he waited only 5 minutes and spent about 30 seconds on each eye for a quick, superficial check.
Typically, doctors with strong and complicated prescriptions spend at least 5 minutes double-checking each eye for accuracy. They wait 20 minutes for full dilation and use various optical tools to thoroughly examine the retina for 10-15 minutes, asking patients to roll their eyes in all directions to check the fragile edges for tears.

l have been seeing Dr. Sylvia for many years. He recently relocated to a less convenient location for me, but I have appreciated his service over the years, and it's worth the extra commute time to continue seeing him.

Great staff, Dr. Sylvia was very nice. Very little wait time. I'll say that for me, someone who (regretfully) hadn't gone to an eye doctor in a long time, I didn't really know what was going on/ about to happen. There was no warning for things like bright flashes of light, the glaucoma test etc...in future, I'll ask what's about to happen, but it's good to let people know what's next.

I love Dr. Sylvia. I've been seeing him for years and he's wonderful. Visits are always very quick. He's never usually running late, so you get right in, and he never yells at you. I've had way too many optometrists yell at me about reading or screen time that it's so nice to have one that just gets it.
