What should a new client know about working with you?

I collaborate with each individual I work with, to create a treatment plan tailored to their strengths and treatment goals, using evidence-based practices. I specialize in couples therapy and trauma-related individual therapy. I use goald-standard therapies, which depending on the presenting issues may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety and related issues, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for issues related to trauma-related responses, stress, coping, addiction, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for individual and couples therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD, Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for PTSD, Cognitive-Behavioral Conjoint Behavioral Therapy (CBCT) for PTSD in couples, and Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT) for relationship distress and strengthening.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During the intake phase, we'll work on building rapport as I get to know you, what brings you into therapy, your background, strengths and weaknesses, and your goals for therapy. Then, during the treatment planning phase, I'll provide feedback about my clinical impressions and make sure I understand the issues and your goals. I'll then make recommendations for treatment. I'm an expert in clinical psychology, but you are the expert in you. You know yourself best, so I want to work with you to develop a treatment plan that is empirically-based and tailored to your strengths and goals. From here, we jump into treatment. We start session with a check-in on how you are doing and how your week went. Since these are your sessions, I want us to focus on what is most relevant and helpful for you, so I also check-in to see if there is anything that would be particularly helpful for us to focus on in session that day. I typically take a skills-based approach, where each session we are learning and practicing a new skill that will help you toward your goals. I regularly provide handouts and worksheets to help you practice the skills we talk about in session. I also use measurement-based care, which means I will occasionally ask you questions about your symptoms progress to help assure that the treatment we created together is effective.
