About Dr. Selena Huang

Dr. Selena Huang is a residency and fellowship-trained optometrist who specializes in comprehensive eye care as well as fitting specialty contact lenses for complex diseases, dry eye syndrome, and corneal reshaping therapy (Ortho-K) for the treatment and prevention of nearsightedness. She is very passionate about ensuring that her patients receive the best and the most up to date treatment. She continues to grow and evolve as new treatments emerge and just recently became one of the first NYC optometrists to be certified in prescribing oral medications.
Dr. Huang completed her bachelor's degree in Medical & Molecular Biology at MCPHS with honors, and then pursued her Doctorate of Optometry from the Accelerated Program at Pennsylvania College of Optometry, graduating with magna cum laude honors.
Dr. Huang continued her post-doctorate residency and fellowship training in Seattle in the evaluation and fitting of specialty contact lenses for high prescriptions, corneal degenerations and irregularities (such as keratoconus), multifocal lenses, corneal reshaping therapy (orthokeratology) for children and adults, and solving visual problems after eye disease or surgery.
She is also the recipient of the Cooper Vision Excellence in Contact Lens Award. Dr. Huang is an active member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society, American Optometric Association, and New York State Optometric Association.
Dr. Huang lives in NYC with her family and enjoys travel, nature and snowboarding.

Doctor's bedside manner was acceptable. The doctor and her staff were pleasant, which has some value. The issues lie in two areas:
1- The fact that the doctor does not spend any time providing you an explanation of the tests and associated results shows a certain degree of carelesness. The most important aspect of being a medical patient in today's world is empowerment, and the only way that patients can be empowered and proactive about their own healthcare, is for patients to have an understanding of their current health situation. Missing explanations shows a lack of thoughtfulness on the end of Dr. Huang, which could partly be explained by her age. A recommendation is to therefore see her team for low-level checks for a few years while finding a more thoughtful long-term partner.
2. The appointments feel extremely rushed. You, unfortunately, do not feel like you can ask questions or any further clarifications, which defeats one of the main purposes of seeing a doctor.

Dr. Huang is so nice! She explained everything thoroughly and I felt comfortable around her. I wished they told me to not drive so they could have done a full exam (dilating my eyes to see the health of the back of my eyes) so I didn't have to make another appointment to come in again, but it's fine. Everyone at the office was nice and they had several staff take care of me before getting seen by Dr. Huang.
