About Dr. Shalin Patel
Shalin S. Patel MD is a spine surgeon and assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at The GW Medical Faculty Associates. He specializes in the treatment of spinal disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. Dr. Patel is trained in minimally invasive procedures used to address issues pertaining to cervical disc herniations, cervical radiculopathy/myelopathy, lumbar degenerative conditions as well as spinal tumors and spinal deformity.
Dr. Patel completed his undergraduate education at Boston College and earned his medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at Loma Linda University Medical Center in southern California. He then went on to complete a fellowship in Spine Surgery at Harvard University.
Dr. Patel believes in treating each patient as a unique individual and developing a personalized treatment plan for each patient that exhausts all non-operative treatment options prior to performing surgical intervention.

I don’t feel like he actually listened to my issue. I was in acute pain and needed some support that day. I had been seeking chiropractic treatment for months and all he did was prescribe physical therapy which my insurance won’t cover. I didn’t get help.

Dr. Patel did an excellent job explaining the condition which had caused me so much pain and brought me into his office for treatment. He did an equally excellent job of explaining the procedure I needed to address my situation. He informed me about possible side effects and he answered all of my questions. After each visit, I felt Dr. Patel understood my condition and that he was actively taking steps to address it.
