Getting to know Dr. Shannon Stepan

***Insurance disclaimer*** I DO NOT ACCEPT MEDICAID OR MEDICARE. As a compassionate, thoughtful, experienced psychologist, I am very interested in getting to know you and your struggles. I work with individuals and couples, from late adolescence to older adulthood. My work is collaborative and starts by creating a non-judgmental space in which you can feel comfortable sharing your symptoms and exploring your past, present and future. We will work together to help you understand and negotiate the external and internal obstacles preventing you from achieving greater contentment in your life. I use evidence-based approaches, such as CBT, DBT, and ACT, to help clients reduce anxiety and depression, better cope with stress, and improve their self-esteem and relationships. I also utilize attachment and psychodynamic theories to help clients construct a meaningful narrative of their history, identify harmful patterns in thinking, behavior and relationships, and help clients liberate from them. I specialize in both short-term and long-term psychotherapy aimed at increasing self-awareness and identifying patterns that contribute to mood symptoms and difficulties at work or in relationships. I look forward to speaking with you about the challenges you are currently facing so that we can establish a plan to help you overcome them and lead a more satisfying and fulfilling life. I look forward to learning about you and partnering with you through psychotherapy to help you reduce stress and find greater satisfaction with your life. ***Insurance disclaimer*** I DO NOT ACCEPT MEDICAID OR MEDICARE. I work as an out-of-network provider. I am happy to provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbu

Dr Stepan was great. She helped me through a difficult time in my life, and find ways to deal with my stress.
I booked this appointment and received email confirmation. I logged on at the appointment start time. When the doctor wasn’t on the line after 10 mins, I called and left a vm. Again at the 15 min mark. She never joined the video call but did call me back to say Zocdoc doesn’t sync with her calendar and the time booked would not work. She also noted a preference for a 20 minute intro session vs the “first appointment” detail noted on the site. Really disappointing experience overall.

The work that Dr. Stepan and I did together was life-changing. She's incredible at what she does, and I don't think I would be where I am today if it wasn't for her guidance, support, wisdom, and insights. We worked closely together for nearly 3.5 years on a weekly basis, and we frequently keep in touch with the occasional "tune-up" as we like to call it. She always recalls specifics on details that I've shared over the years, and I know she's always actively listening to what I have to say - I can say with certainty that Dr. Stepan genuinely wants what's best for her patients, and it shows.
Dr. Stepan is an incredible therapist. I highly recommend, and have referred many folks to her. She is easy to get in touch with, on time, and extraordinarily helpful with the issues that I am working through in therapy.
I saw Dr. Stepan in person before the pandemic and continued with video sessions with her. Dr. Stepan is warm, authentic and down to earth. She is a great listener but she is also an active participant, not just a silent nodder or a type of a therapist who only rephrases what you said without any input. She has made many useful observations about repetitive patterns in my behavior which contribute to my problems and also taught me some useful coping skills. I think I am making progress in my treatment!
Dr. Stepan has helped me tackle various issues over a number of years— outstanding care and service. Incredibly knowledgeable and professional. Would highly recommend!
