About Dr. Shine John
Dr. John moved to Austin, TX in 2009 and has been in private practice since. He was born and raised in New York City.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the New York Institute of Technology, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, Old Westbury, and his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. John completed his Residency in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Temple University, Western Pennsylvania Hospital.
Dr. John is a fellowship-trained, board-certified Foot and Ankle Surgeon, with four years of comprehensive foot and ankle surgery and medicine training. He is dual board certified by The American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ABFAS) and The American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM), and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS).
He completed a one-year Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery and Research Fellowship with the Weil Foot-Ankle and Orthopedic Institute in Chicago, IL. This fellowship is the longest-running ACFAS-recognized fellowship in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. Since 1995, its alumni have provided significant leadership locally and nationally. Under Drs. Lowell Weil Jr. and Lowell Scott Weil Sr., Dr. John gained exposure to state-of-the-art procedures for treating simple to complex foot and ankle pathologies. Dr. Lowell Scott Weil Sr. innovated the Weil osteotomy procedure, and Dr. Lowell Weil Jr. developed the popular technique for plantar plate ligament tears.
Dr. John’s training included extensive experience with Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), Radiofrequency Coblation, and Regenerative Medicine for foot and ankle conditions. His fellowship directors are team podiatrists for the Chicago White Sox and consultants for other professional Chicago sports teams, which enhanced his sports medicine skills. Advanced techniques were often used to allow quicker recovery and early return to sport.

Everyone I encountered - Front desk, medical assistant, x-ray technician and Dr. John - were friendly, professional and knew what they were doing. Dr. John and his medical assistant spent a lot of time with me - I never felt that his mind was out the door ready to see the next patient.

By the time I saw Dr. John, my initial symptoms had resided, so it was difficult to make a diagnosis. I went to Dr. John for a second opinion on a recommended surgery to my right foot. I really appreciated his thorough explanation of what is going on with my foot and the physiological explanation of why I experience pain. I also appreciated his conservative approach when it comes to considering surgery and I felt like he and I were on the same page in regards to the treatment of my condition. He was easy to talk to, open and honest, and left me feeling more confident with the knowledge he provided.
