Dr. Riccardi-Zhu earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Economics from Swarthmore College, completed premedical studies at Columbia University, and received his medical degree from the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. He completed his psychiatry residency at the University of California, Irvine and pursued additional training in Prolonged Grief Psychotherapy through the Center for Prolonged Grief at Columbia University. His background in the humanities and social sciences drew him to psychiatry because of its ability to consider the whole person—from biology and behavior to relationships, culture, spirituality, and meaning. His approach is comprehensive, collaborative, and holistic, incorporating evidence-based psychotherapy and lifestyle-focused strategies while considering what matters most to each individual. Dr. Riccardi-Zhu is committed to culturally sensitive and LGBTQ+-affirming care and strives to create a welcoming environment where clients of all backgrounds and identities feel respected and understood. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, camping, cycling, running, kayaking, and learning languages, which allows him to connect with different cultures and perspectives.
