About Dr. Spencer Hayes
Dr. Spencer Hayes is a board-eligible ophthalmologist and a native Texan who is excited to return to San Antonio to join the San Antonio Eye Center family. He graduated from Trinity University with a degree in Chemistry, and during his time there he was an active member of the Track and Field team.
He attended medical school at the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his internship at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, and then went to Dallas to complete ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Early on in his educational career he had broad research interests and his work has been presented at a variety of conferences. More recently his research has been concentrated on surgical management of glaucoma.
He loves to spend time with his wife, daughter, and their dog. They are avid fans of walks in the park, frisbee, and ping pong.

I was just visiting in Bulverde when I had an unexpected issue with my eye.
Called my eye doc back home and he said to see someone immediately where I was.
Got a quick response and appointment from Dr. Hayes.
Dr. Hayes performed a thorough exam and determined that it was just floaters.

My appointment was confirmed but the front desk staff had no idea about it. They blamed it on the system -typical- and claimed that it may have been malfunctioning. The doctor didn't see me, they didn't seem to care much, didn’t offer any alternative, and simply shrugged it off. Frustrating and unprofessional.

Dr Spencer Hayes, MD is an ophthalmologist who is a glaucoma specialist. He takes the time to listen to your questions, is bilingual (speaks Spanish), and has a good bedside manner that is respectful and friendly.
My advice is to come prepared with your questions written down, any prescriptions you need renewed (pharmacy name and address location), and be prepared to wait for about an hour as you are evaluated by ophthalmic technicians before actually seeing Dr Hayes. This “assembly line” process of being seen first by ophthalmic technicians is the business/treatment model being currently being used by all ophthalmology physicians/doctors in an outpatient clinic setting.
Bottom line, Dr Spencer Hayes is worth the wait, especially if you have glaucoma.

Everything was wonderful. Each visit that staff receptionists ar very effient. We certainly will stay with Dr Hays I would highly recommend Dr Hays to my family & friends.

Dr. Hays was very thorough and explained everything clearly. He diagnosed a medical issue that damaged my eyed and sent me to the er immediately. Thanks to him I was able to get medical help that I didn't realize I needed.
