Getting to know Dr. Steven Krinsky

My name is Dr. Steven (Shmaya) Krinsky, a Licensed Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT) specializing in anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, and mood disorders. I earned my PsyD in School Psychology from Rutgers University and completed both my internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Anxiety in New York. I am dedicated to using evidence-based treatments such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Anxiety and other mood disorders can deeply impact a person's life, often limiting their ability to enjoy meaningful experiences and relationships. My job is to help clients open up their lives and take them back. I believe in the importance of humor and a strong therapeutic connection to create a warm, supportive environment for my clients. My goal is to help clients gain a deeper understanding of their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, enabling them to make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives beyond therapy sessions.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is firmly grounded in the principles of exposure therapy, which helps clients gain a deeper understanding of their anxieties while building the tools and skills to face them directly, rather than avoiding them. My primary goal is to empower clients to become their own therapists. By fostering a solid understanding of the psychological concepts underlying anxiety, clients can engage more fully in treatment, develop the skills to effectively manage anxiety, and experience lasting success beyond therapy. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness clients as they reclaim their lives, expanding their capacity to live fully and navigate future challenges with confidence and resilience. I also work with psychology students and other mental health practitioners to share my knowledge and teach a newer generation of therapists.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Before the initial session, clients complete standard intake paperwork, which I review to facilitate treatment. I typically hold 45-minute sessions once a week, with the option for more frequent appointments, conducted via a confidential, HIPAA-compliant video platform. I do not prescribe medication. At the end of each session, I offer at-home therapeutic strategies and exercises to support client progress and provide brief support between sessions to enhance the overall clinical experience

Dr. Krinsky was amazing with my son Josh, who had been experiencing anxiety and lack of sleep. During his first few visits with Dr. Krinsky, they made a plan and met weekly thereafter. After several months, Josh was feeling and doing so much better; he was finally able to sleep and enjoy his hobbies once again. Dr. Krinsky was kind, patient, smart, and transparent. Would 100% recommend.
