About Dr. Theresa Benecki
Dr. Theresa R. Benecki was born in Wilmington, Delaware. She spent her childhood years in Delaware, West Virginia, and Tokyo, Japan before attending college at University of Delaware. She then attended Jefferson Medical College, and graduated in 1978. Dr. Benecki chose to do her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, New Jersey. She joined Pineland Associates in 1982 and has practiced as a member of that group since then. At first, Dr. Benecki practiced at Point Pleasant Hospital, Point Pleasant, New Jersey, where she was chief of the obstetrical department for six years. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was then transferred to Ocean Medical Center, Brick, New Jersey, where she practices now.
Dr. Benecki stopped practicing obstetrics in 2002, and concentrates on office gynecology. She was originally drawn to her interest in obstetrics and gynecology when she was a student in college, at which time she recognized the shortage of and need for women in that field. When she started her residency at St. Barnabas Medical Center, she was the only woman out of 16 residents. She was the first American-trained female obstetrician in Ocean County, New Jersey. Dr. Benecki is gratified to see that women now have the choice of seeing a female Ob/Gyn, since the majority of graduating obstetricians are now women.
Dr. Benecki’s interests, in addition to her husband and four children, include swimming and music. A competitive swimmer since childhood, she still swims almost daily. She was a student of classical piano, taught lessons throughout college, and still enjoys music of all types. More recently, she has taken an active role in her practice’s transition to electronic medical records, and has been enjoying the challenge.
