Getting to know Dr. Trent Claypool

As a dedicated sports psychologist with over 15 years of experience and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the University of the Rockies, I specialize in addressing the mental health needs of athletes. My approach combines evidence-based strategies with a personalized touch, fostering resilience, focus, and confidence both on and off the field. I have worked with individuals across various sports and competitive levels, from recreational athletes to NCAA and elite professionals, addressing challenges such as depression and anxiety, eating disorders, trauma and stress, performance anxiety, injury recovery, mental blocks, and fostering the right mindset. My goal is to empower clients to harness their mental strength, overcome obstacles, and unlock their full potential. Whether you're striving to address a mental health concern, improve performance, navigate transitions, or maintain a healthy balance between sport and life, I am here to support your journey with a compassionate and individualized approach. Together, we can build the tools you need to thrive in your sport and beyond.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I utilize a holistic, individualized approach to healing, grounded in the understanding that our nervous system plays a central role in our mental and emotional well-being. My practice integrates a combination of powerful modalities, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Biofeedback, and Neurofeedback, to help clients rewire their nervous system, process trauma and stress, build mental flexibility, and cultivate greater resilience. With a deep focus on the mind-body connection, I work collaboratively with clients to create a safe and supportive environment where healing can unfold. I approach each session with empathy, patience, and a commitment to finding the right solutions for your unique needs. Together, we will explore how your nervous system may be influencing your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and performance and work toward a more balanced and regulated state. By using evidence-based techniques tailored to your personal experience, I aim to help you achieve lasting transformation and a sense of empowerment in your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My goal is to ensure that you feel heard, understood, and supported throughout the process. Our work together starts with an initial consultation, where we will discuss your concerns, goals, and any relevant history. I take a thorough, collaborative approach to understand the unique challenges you're facing and how they might be impacting your life. From there, we will create a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your needs and goals. I typically integrate nervous system-based approaches, including EMDR, Biofeedback, and Neurofeedback, as well as traditional talk therapy techniques, to address both the psychological and physiological aspects of healing. These modalities can help you regulate your nervous system, process stress, and shift ingrained patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, stress, or other difficulties. Throughout our work together, I emphasize open communication and feedback, ensuring that you feel empowered and actively involved. My approach is flexible and responsive to your progress, and I am committed to adjusting techniques as necessary to help you achieve lasting change. Each session is designed to be a safe space where you can explore, heal, and grow, and I work with you at your own pace to help you develop the tools and resilience needed for long-term well-being.
