Psychologist
1000 Main St, Ste G, Port Jefferson, NY
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with 16 years of experience in private practice. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I work with children, teenagers, and adults. I practice evidence-based interventions that are known to be effective and generate results. I combine Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) with other treatment modalities, including Attachment-Based Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Mindfulness, and informed Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). My approach to treatment is relational, and I work collaboratively with my patients in setting and achieving goals. I believe that a strong therapeutic rapport is an important factor in treatment satisfaction and success. I completed a fellowship at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, which enhanced my clinical skills and deepened my understanding of psychological treatment. We all struggle and go through challenging moments in our lives. Sometimes we may benefit from receiving additional support to get through those difficult times. Therapy can help you identify and change negative patterns of thinking and behaving that impact your well-being. At the time of your initial consultation and throughout the treatment process, I will listen to your concerns and assist you in identifying areas for intervention. Your treatment will be provided in a safe, supportive, and highly confidential setting. Your progress will be closely monitored, and together we will adjust your treatment plan as needed. Once your therapeutic goals are accomplished, therapy sessions will gradually decrease, and psychological treatment will be safely concluded.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Your level of comfort, desired goals, and experiences inform our process. We work together as a team and psychological treatment is tailored to your specific needs. My style is warm, non-judgemental and, most importantly, accepting of you and where you stand in your journey. Whether you feel ready or not, I am here to support you every step of the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy will be different depending on the individual, because each person has different issues and goals for therapy. You get to decide the agenda and topic for the sessions, but I like to ask you feedback and to report progress (or any new insights gained) from the previous therapy session. Depending on your specific needs, therapy can be short-term, for a specific issue, or longer-term, to deal with more difficult situations. Either way, it is most common to schedule regular sessions with your therapist (usually weekly). It is important to understand that you will get more results from therapy if you actively participate in the process. The ultimate goal of therapy is to help generalize skills learned in sessions to your everyday life. Therefore, beyond the work you do in therapy sessions, your therapist may suggest some things you can do outside of therapy to support your process – such as reading therapy notes, journaling on specific topics, or noticing emotions or behaviors.
