“I have been a patient of Dr Navarro for multiple years now, and can’t even think of working with anyone else. She is incredibly intuitive and has a serious skill in getting you talking even if you think there is nothing bothering you. She is genuinely the best, and I have recommended her to many of my friends (who are also very happy with her)”

Getting to know Dr. Victoria Navarro

You might have been told not to complain, to keep your head up, or not to cry. When these messages are repeated, it becomes easy to deny your emotions, experience low self-esteem, and develop a negative inner critic fueled by anxiety, guilt, and shame. You may also feel the need to work hard to validate your experience because you aren’t understood. Additionally, your relationships may feel overwhelming, and setting boundaries can seem difficult. Overall, you may find yourself caught in a cycle of perpetuating pain, becoming more disconnected from who you are and those around you. There are different parts of us that remain hidden from others, wounded, and eager to be validated. In our work together, I acknowledge, seek to understand, and work toward healing those parts. I offer a safe and empathetic space for my clients to be authentic and vulnerable, with the goal of practicing healthy boundaries, relationships, and behaviors outside of therapy. I empower my clients to move toward the future with confidence while breaking chains of self-doubt, guilt, and generational trauma. Generally, I work with individuals motivated to understand how their past has impacted them, including family conflict and distress, life transitions, bi or multicultural identity, interpersonal difficulties, and sexual abuse. I have particular expertise working with trauma and intimate partner violence. Therapy with me is relational, collaborative, and non-judgmental so that we can learn, grow, and give together. Additionally, I provide couples therapy. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology and a Master’s in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from William Paterson University, completed my internship at Pace University, and earned my Bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I delve into how past experiences influence and manifest in present relationships. My goal is to help clients gain insight into issues such as low self-esteem, relational issues, anxiety and depression that are often fueled by worry, guilt, and shame. Clinically, I use psychodynamic and relational approaches to facilitate healing. I strive to empower my clients to move confidently toward the future, breaking free from self-doubt, and worry.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Every first session is uniquely tailored to each client. I typically begin by asking the client where they would like to start. My primary intention for the initial session is to meet my clients where they are. I like to explore what they hope to achieve from therapy and envision what that might look like. My goal is to ensure that everyone I work with feels comfortable, validated, and safe.
