Psychologist

*Please note that I only accept Aetna, Medicare of Pennsylvania, and Quest Behavioral Health Insurance. For all other plans, you would be responsible for paying my fee out-of-pocket and would need to confirm with your insurance company if you are eligible for any reimbursement. After several years in the arts, I turned to psychology as a way to engage with the world in a more directly prosocial manner. I earned a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), both from Widener University. I was awarded the Clinical Psychology Award for Empathy and Caring from the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology for my "exceptional ability to forge constructive relationships with clients." In addition to providing psychotherapy in inpatient, adult outpatient, substance use, and college counseling settings, my experience includes personality and neuropsychological assessment, executive coaching, leadership and organizational consultation, as well as clinical consultation and supervision. I work with people aged 18 and older who live with anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, personality disorders, and various addictions. I also support individuals who may not meet diagnostic criteria but wish to change how they experience self-esteem, perfectionism, their relationships (as partner, parent, child, sibling, or friend), identity exploration, spiritual issues, work difficulties or stagnation, or dissatisfaction despite "achieving success." I am based on the East Coast and am authorized through PsyPACT to provide telepsychology services in 39 states and territories.

What should a new client know about working with you?

While many of the people I work with experience a reduction in "symptoms," this is only one of the goals I hold when practicing psychotherapy. From a 10,000 foot point of view, I think of my work as helping a person discover and clarify what they want, why they want it (and why they might not), and how to live with the consequences - positive and negative - of living in line with what is important to them. In my mind, this psychotherapeutic process is like visiting a largely unknown wilderness. As we traverse it together consistently, patiently, and for long enough, strange, rare, or never-before-seen animals can begin to emerge and be recognized - their place and (sometimes powerful) influence on the wider ecology of your life perceived and understood in new ways. My approach has been described as highly empathetic, caring, and productive. Many of the people I've worked with have come away from this process feeling more alive, more connected to themselves and others, more flexible, more resilient, and more effective in their lives.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In a quiet, consistent, and affirming setting, I will invite you to speak as freely and as honestly as you can as we explore your life and experience. I will listen carefully and deeply to you so that you might better hear and understand yourself in new, sometimes surprising ways. In doing so, we will begin to more clearly perceive and understand the links and connections between your inner experiences, how you relate to others, your identities, the culture(s) and social surrounds you live in, and how all of these facets interact with the past, present, and expectations for the future.

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Ongoing session: $175-205 for 45 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork

More information on payments and coverage

For most insurance plans, I am an out-of-network provider. This means that you would be responsible for paying the full amount for services directly to me after each session. Then, every month, I would provide you with a "super bill" that you could submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Please note that I cannot guarantee that you will receive any reimbursement for services, given the different coverages and eligibility requirements for different plans. I recommend that all patients contact their insurance company to verify their coverage for in-person and/or telepsychology services for a provider based in Philadelphia.
