She was the first doctor who truly listened and took time to understand me. For the first time, I felt seen and without judgment. Dr. Yokarla Veras is a board-certified reproductive and general psychiatrist with specialized experience in helping patients navigate life transitions related to reproductive mental health, including challenges in pregnancy, postpartum care, menopause, premenstrual dysphoria, fertility concerns, and more.
She earned her Bachelor's degree from Columbia University and received her Doctor of Medicine from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Veras completed her residency in psychiatry at NewYork-Presbyterian / Columbia University Irving Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Women's Mental Health at the same institution.
Dr. Veras is an instructor in clinical psychiatry at Columbia University. In addition to her academic and clinical roles, she maintains a practice in New York, offering individualized care for a wide range of mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, and more. She is also a member of the American Psychiatric Association.

What is your typical process for working with clients?
During your initial evaluation, I will review your medical history, psychiatric history, reproductive history, current symptoms, and other relevant information to develop an appropriate treatment plan with you. I use evidence-based treatments to provide recommendations, and work with you to achieve your goals.

I came to Dr. Veras when I was really struggling with postpartum depression. She made me feel understood and took the time to explain the medication options and reassured me about safety while breastfeeding, which I was nervous about. I’m doing much better now and so thankful.
