Adam Abraham, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
Adam Abraham, 006553. My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as both modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality and allow us to work together to chart a path forward. My counseling approach is primarily person-centered, which involves creating a supportive, non-judgmental environment where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings. I also incorporate CBT techniques to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns. I work with older adults who are dealing with loneliness, adult children navigating phase-of-life issues, parents of adolescent children experiencing communication challenges and power struggles affecting their relationships, and the general population managing social anxiety and striving to create and sustain effective relationships. My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment. Being raised by my grandfather, who generally kept things to himself and never complained, I saw how that affected him. He believed that discussing his issues would make others perceive him as weak and vulnerable. He was very depressed, and it affected his overall health. I knew that if he had spoken to a therapist, it would have helped him tremendously. I want to be that person to support anyone who may be thinking and feeling like my grandfather. I hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the New York Institute of Technology and have training from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy.
