What should a new client know about working with you?

I use only gold-standard evidence-based practices, primarily CBT and exposure-based interventions. I treat a wide range of conditions, but my main focus is on PTSD and OCD, as well as generalized anxiety, panic, agoraphobia, social anxiety. As a professor and researcher, my research focuses on identifying strategies to make treatment more effective, efficient, and tolerable.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am far from a typical talk therapist. I always begin with a diagnostic interview to craft a personalized treatment plan using only evidence-based practices shown to be efficacious. This is followed by psychoeducation about identified problems and areas of growth, and orientation to the rationale for treatment and how to implement therapeutic strategies. My role is to help my patients become their own therapist so they can manage their symptoms over time. Also, unlike many practitioners, I regularly gather information about symptom severity through self-report and interviewing, which is used to guide case conceptualization and targeted interventions. I aso encourage my patients to engage in between-session work, and I follow-up about our agreed upon assignments. Another aspect that makes my practice unique is the use of state-of-the-art strategies for enhancing treatment outcomes, and incorporating a biological approach to assess and rule out medical problems (e.g., hormonal imbalance, long COVID, etc.) that may be contributing to identified difficulties.
