“I've worked with Adolfo 5+ years and he has been an amazing therapist. He is thoughtful, compassionate, direct yet sincere, and always has my best interest at heart. Adolfo has become almost like a 2nd parent for me. In the last 5+ years together, he has supported me in every aspect of my life, both personal and professional. He helped me cope up with a sister who suffers deeply from bipolar depression. He worked through my issues of losing a mother to cancer at the age of 18. He has helped me through a tough time with my father that suffers from dementia. Through our work together, I was promoted twice in my job. And most importantly, without him, I would not be married to the man I love and now have 2 wonderful kids with. I recommend Adolfo wholeheartedly. A++++!”

Getting to know Dr. Adolfo Profumo
Suffering is an integral part of life, much like manure is essential to a farmer's work. Just as a wise farmer uses manure as fertilizer, I help you understand and use your suffering wisely, learning to grow from it. I am silent when needed, yet ready to answer your questions and engage in direct dialogue when necessary.
Since 1983, I have worked with anxious and depressed adults and children, as well as couples struggling with unhealthy communication and addictive behaviors. I hold a PhD in Social Welfare from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and a Master's in Clinical Social Work from New York University.
I speak French, Italian, Spanish, German, and some Hebrew. Having lived in various European and Asian countries before settling in New York in 1981, I have a deep appreciation for cultural and ethnic diversity.

Adolfo Profumo is educated, smart, kind, funny, honest and has a god-given talent for the work he does. After a lifetime of searching for a therapist, I had the good fortune of finding Adolfo. Whenever hope gets lost - Adolfo brings hope back into my life.

I started seeing Adolfo 10 months ago when I was in the depths of depression and edging dangerously close to thoughts of suicide. I credit him and only him with my speedy recovery-not just through a mental health exploration, but also through an intellectual one. Through his kindness and gentle wisdom, he both taught me self-acceptance and empowered me to make those changes that I had the power to affect. Through dark days as a poor grad school student, through growing into womanhood by being recklessly "in love," through coping with being a foreigner in a hostile new city, Adolfo helped me find answers within myself. I give him the highest possible recommendation and wish him all the best for the future, which I have no doubt will bring him continuing success as a provider and mentor.

I have worked with Adolfo, as a patient, for several years. He is prompt, respectful, and attentive. He offers sound advice and listens very well. He has gone above and beyond, helping members of my family and fielding impromptu calls. He is great!
