Getting to know Dr. Alan Graham

Alan R. Graham, Ph.D., is a distinguished coach, therapist, educator, author, and lecturer who has empowered thousands of individuals and families, particularly those with ADHD, to overcome life's challenges. With a foundation in secondary and elementary education, Alan earned his Ph.D. in psychology from Northwestern University and completed clinical training at UIC and Illinois Masonic Medical Center. He serves on the professional staff at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he has mentored numerous students and residents. Alan led a positive psychology discussion group in Dr. Martin Seligman’s Authentic Happiness Coaching Program and is the Dean of the ADHD Coach Training Program at MentorCoach. He holds certifications as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and a Master Certified ADHD Coach (MCAC). Alan co-founded ADDvisor.com and has published works including Lemonade: The Leader’s Guide to Resilience at Work and The Guide to ADHD Coaching (2018). Our practice isn’t just one person — we’re a team of caring therapists who share the same approach and values. I’m not taking new clients at the moment, but I will meet with you and make sure you’re connected with a therapist in our practice who’s a great fit for your needs. Your appointment may be with Dr. Shayne Kelly, a Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow at ACP Consultants. She earned her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in substance use counseling from Adler University, an APA-accredited program. Dr. Kelly has trained in hospital-based programs, residential centers, and outpatient clinics. She provides therapy to individuals across the lifespan, addressing concerns such as ADHD, trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. In addition, she conducts psychological and neuropsychological evaluations to clarify diagnoses, assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning, and inform treatment planning.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Today's children face many pressures—from wanting acceptance to managing academic stress, ADHD, divorce, crime, drugs, and illness. These challenges must be approached with great sensitivity, especially when working with children and adolescents. We believe therapy should be a positive experience where young people feel safe, supported, and understood. Our goal is to help them trust the process and know we are on their team as they learn to manage their world. We are also committed to supporting adults as they navigate career demands, relationships, parenting challenges, health concerns, and major life transitions. Adults benefit from a compassionate space where they can build resilience, gain clarity, and create meaningful change. Whether working with children, teens, or adults, our mission is to provide effective tools and a safe, empowering environment for growth. Your appointment may be with Kate Warner, M.A. & Psy.D Candidate, a Doctoral Intern and incoming Postdoctoral Fellow at ACP Consultants. Kate brings a warm, grounded, and collaborative approach to care. She works with concerns such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship and sexuality issues, and personality patterns that feel stuck or overwhelming. Her training in hospitals, community mental health, forensic settings, and corrections allows her to meet clients without judgment. She provides neuropsychological evaluations and individual, family, and couples therapy for children, teens, adults, and older adults—tailoring each appointment to your goals and helping you build practical tools for lasting change. Kate would be glad to partner with you as you work toward feeling steadier, understanding yourself more deeply, and moving forward with support.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As psychologists, clinical social workers and neuropsychologists, we provide services to children as young as 2 through older adults. Our specialties include: assessment, ADHD, depression, anxiety, coaching and marriage and family therapy. We partner with physicians, schools, and others to craft and implement a plan to help you and/or your children. We also offer special education advocacy and a full range of assessment services, including psychological, neuropsychological, psychoeducational testing for LD/ADHD, etc. Certified by the International Coach Federation, ADD and executive coaching services are also available. Dr. Graham will meet with you for the initial appointment and then will discuss with you who might be the best clinician in our practice to help you move forward.
