Getting to know Alyssa Heavens

*Insurance is not accepted, so therapy sessions are self-pay; please expect to pay out of pocket as we are an out-of-network practice.* I specialize in helping couples and individuals navigate their relationships in a healthy way. Through couples or individual therapy, we can address codependency, navigating breakups, communication struggles, and building connections. I also support clients with mood and anxiety disorders, stress management, and the development of coping skills. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist-LP. I received a master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University and an advanced certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Long Island University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

*Insurance is not accepted so therapy sessions are self-pay; please expect to pay out of pocket as we are an out of network practice.* Are you struggling in your relationships? Are you and your partner feeling disconnected and emotionally distant? Maybe you have a difficult time setting boundaries, expressing your needs, or communicating effectively. Maybe your confidence isn't where you want it to be or you are anxious in your relationships/friendships. I specialize in working with adults and couples who struggle with thoughts and behaviors that hold them back from successfully navigating their personal and professional lives, as well as their relationships. I help clients see the ways that they might be self-sabotaging and help them relearn how to communicate and connect in ways that actually work.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My overall goal is to provide a therapeutic space that is empathetic, supportive and validating, while being culturally considerate. In fact, I have dedicated my professional career to counseling and educating clients on how to navigate relationships in a culturally sensitive way. My ability to empathize and relate to my clients offer a safe space for them to share core values, beliefs and thoughts that contribute to negative interactions with themselves and others. During our sessions, we will peel back the layers that represent your needs and fears that contribute to how you see yourself and others. I utilize evidence based therapeutic modalities (EFT, CBT, etc.) with the overall goal to empower my clients to lead fulfilling lives and unlock the best version of themselves.
