What should a new client know about working with you?

Your first session is a conversation, not a test. We'll talk about what brought you in, what you'd like to change, and what's worked or hasn't in the past. There's no pressure to share more than you're ready to, and you'll leave with a clear sense of next steps. If you're dealing with substance use, you don't need to be "ready to quit" or have a plan to start. I meet people wherever they are in the process, whether that's early recovery, relapse, or simply wondering whether use is a problem. If you're a parent, I'm happy to talk through how I work with children and teens, and how families can be involved in the process. Good to know: I don't prescribe medication, but I'm glad to coordinate with your prescriber or primary care doctor if you'd like. I'm not in network with Medicaid. I accept [Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and 200+ other plans], and you can check your plan on this page.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

1. Book a first visit. Choose "Psychotherapy Intake / Initial Visit" on this page. You'll pick a time that works for you and can check that your insurance is accepted before you book. If you have a question first, send a message and I'll get back to you. 2. Complete a little paperwork. Before we meet, you'll get intake forms and consent documents to fill out online. They take about [10-15] minutes and help us use our time together well. 3. Your first session (about [50-60] minutes). This is a conversation, not a test. We'll talk about what brought you in, what's going on right now, and what you hope will change. I'll also ask about your history, including any past counseling, substance use, and what's helped or hasn't. You don't have to share more than you're comfortable with. If you're bringing a child or teen, we'll talk about how family members can be involved. 4. We set goals together. By the end of the first session or two, we'll agree on what you want to work on and what progress would look like for you. This becomes our roadmap, and we'll revisit it as things change. 5. Regular sessions. Most people start with weekly sessions, then space them out as they build skills and confidence. Sessions focus on practical tools, such as coping skills, communication, and ways to handle triggers and stress, alongside the space to talk things through. 6. Coordinated care when helpful. I don't prescribe medication, but if you're working with a psychiatrist, primary care doctor, or other provider, I can coordinate with them (with your written permission) so your care fits together. 7. Checking in and finishing well. We'll check in regularly on how it's going and adjust the approach if needed. When you feel ready, we'll plan for wrapping up, including how to keep your progress going afterward.
