Dr. Ami Student, PsyD

Psychologist
ID
Although I consider myself a lifelong learner, my last name can often throw people. I am Dr. Ami Student, a licensed, seasoned clinician with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Boise VA Medical Center and my post-doctoral fellowship at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. I help adults confront a wide range of challenges, such as depression, anxiety, and traumatic stress. I also have expertise in assisting individuals struggling with their physical health, including chronic pain, medical illness, and sleep/insomnia. As a therapist, I value compassion, collaboration, contribution, and genuineness. I show up, remain active, and don't take this work lightly. With care and understanding, I invite you to “dig in,” make change, and experiment with new ways of living. I use treatments that have strong scientific support but individualize these approaches to meet your needs. I am social-justice oriented and make every effort to be inclusive and equitable in my care. As a member of the queer community, I also provide welcoming care for those living romantic, sexual, and gender-diverse lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

It is vital that clients see opportunities for real change in their lives. I aim for you to leave sessions with more than simply increased awareness or understanding of your problems. Instead, I hope our meetings allow you to find ways to shift your relationships with yourself, others, and your world. I encourage active experimentation with new ways of living between sessions, so that progress is not isolated to our one hour per week.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We will experiment with new and helpful ways to respond to painful emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations. These new approaches can free you up to reconnect with what matters in your life, and build more fulfillment and meaning.
