Andrew Michaels, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
Hi there, I'm Andrew! I have thirty years of experience in the mental health field and hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University, Brookville. I have extensive knowledge and experience working with people suffering from anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, OCD, trauma, PTSD, domestic violence, complicated grief, and relationship issues. I also work with the LGBTQ+ population around issues of sexual identity, relationship challenges, and coming out to families and peers. For 17 years, I worked in a day treatment program providing individual, group, and family counseling for clients facing a range of issues including ADHD, physical/sexual abuse, and substance abuse. Currently, I am devoted to clients suffering from Schizophrenia, Schizo-Affective Disorders, and Major Depression, offering psychoeducation about symptomatology and connecting them to community services to optimize their functioning. Listening with care and empathy has been crucial in building trusting relationships. I maintain a nonjudgmental stance, respecting cultural beliefs and values, and provide an atmosphere where clients can develop coping skills during difficult times. Reaching out for help is a vital step toward change. Regardless of life's challenges, we have the power to choose our path, face struggles, and grow stronger. I look forward to working with you. My approach I am a highly trained clinician who enjoys working with a multicultural population, treating all clients with sensitivity and respect. I incorporate a wide range of clinical interventions into my practice, including CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Person-Centered Therapy, Anger Management, Relaxation Training, and Psychoanalytic Treatment.
